Sticker prices on auto's Empty Sticker prices on auto's

We are , hopefully, in the process of removing our vehicle from Mexico late spring. In the meantime, have been
looking online at the sticker prices in Guad fora 2010 or so Chevy Colorado. Does anyone know what else the
sticker price DOES NOT include- ie IVA (at what percent) etc. etc. I know many of you have already gone through
the process of buying a vehicle here- and thought you would have the info. We thank you for all you answers.

IVA is 16 percent here, even on autos, ouch!

Most posted pricing here included IVA. And they don't seem to negotiate much if at all.

OUCH! lol- at least it is included in the posted price! 16% more is alot
more to have to pay, if not included in the posted price.

I find in most cases (if not all) that the posted prices include the taxes, handling, etc., etc.. I like it this way. In BC the prices never included the 12% GST/PST or any of the other add-ons so it was quite the hit when you went to pay.

I know what you mean, Bob. This way yoy KNOW what you are paying
right up front , instead of dealer handling blah blah blah.

However, it doesn't include the Jalisco plates which run somewhere north of $300 on the initial purchase. After that, pretty cheap.

I did buy a new car last year and paid the 16% IVA.

If I were to sell that car would I be required to charge a further 16% to the new buyer?

If so it seems if  a car changes hands just a few times during its lifetime the taxes paid in total could approach half the original price of the car??

There is no IVA on used vehicles. Mexico's IVA is a true value added tax and get imposed only on the sale of a new item to the original purchaser, not on resales.

Before you register a used vehicle get a smog test and you will save some money on the registration.

Nice! (Or at least I did three years ago).

When we bought a new car in Guadalajara, we paid the sticker price. It included everything we wanted, plates, taxes and delivery to our home in Chapala.
Later, we helped a friend buy a used car from a Nissan dealer and he got the same service.

We have bought three Honda cars...one from S&S at full sticker and two from the dealer...both at a discount.

I have purchased two cars here, both from dealers in Guadalajara. The first one in 2006, the second in 2013. In both cases everything, including license, was in the price and in both cases I got a nice discount off the posted price by simply asking for the "mejor precio." YMMV

I would add that at this time with the exchange rate as high as it is, this is a great time to buy a Mexican car.

Absolutely! The last time this happened you could buy a car for less here than in the USA! That will stay true on other imported things too. e.g.major appliances, until the pipeline starts to fill with newer goods.

Thanks for all the great advice. The exchange rate is one of the major
reasons we are moving on this purchase , at this time. I will remember
to ask for the precio mejor and might as well as for the price of plates and
smog test! One can not get anything if one does not ask! Thank you, again.

the smog test should be $250 pesos which is the price set by the state. although it may have gone up a bit.

How much of a discount did they give?

In Pesos, the discount looks better than it really is. Better to ask for a option or two. Mats, trailer hitch, luggage rack, etc.

The first was 13%, the second was 10% plus floor mats and spare tire lock.

That's pretty good. Were these new cars or used?

I was able to haggle on a one year old Honda CRV. When I went to the Honda dealer on the north side of the Periferico, they wouldn't deal at all on a similar car when asked in Spanish if this was their best price?

I'm told that they will deal a little on a new car at year end.

Sounds like David did very well on his buys.

I was lucky too. I bought the first SmartCar here in 2006. I told the sales manager that I thought he could sell many at Lakeside if someone promoted it. I said, "give me brochures and a stack of your cards and I'll do it if you give me a very good deal." He did. The second was a model year old Toyota Rav4 that was only 6 months old. It had been a company car for Dalton and had less than 12,000Km on it. They'd put it on the lot the day we visited. It was perfect, just what we wanted and I again talked to the sales manager and simply said, "If you give me a really good price I'll buy it right now." He did. I found both dealers, Eurostern (Mercedes) and Dalton Toyota to be very professional, courteous, and customer service oriented. The only dealer in the USA I ever dealt with that was similar was my Mercedes dealer in Portland, OR.
