taking food into Mexico
Can I bring non-perishable foods such as nuts, oil, popcorn, and crackers into Mexico?

The question wasn't whether or should poster should want to bring it.

Nevertheless, Pedro makes a good point. I have every one of the items in my pantry. I bought them at my neighborhood grocery store.

Sometimes, it's just not the same thing. NOB, we like Brownberry's Whole Grain Oatnut Bread. SOB, its taste is different and not as pleasing.

When you first come to Mexico you spend time at Superlake (expat store lakeside) for example. As time goes on you find more and more acceptable Mexican replacements and go to Superlake less and less. Somethings as kb9gzq points out are not the same and you find ways to bring them down but for the most part you will mexicanize your life over time. Even found good Microbrew here. Admit I am a sucker for Trader Joes and Thai chili lime cashews so yea I miss stuff but not much.
Your mileage may vary.

As time goes on.....more and more Tapatios find SuperLake on the weekends and holiday periods at lakeside and enjoy shopping there for special items that can't be purchased in other stores. It's a true shopping novelty for them.
A Trader Joe's for Mexicans who can afford it.
Otherwise what Zed says.

Well put, Zed. Been in Mexico over ten years; over 7 in Ajijic. Early on, Superlake and the tiny markets were the only option.
Been back to the states only once a year ago for less than a week, (and I was a Trader Joe fan) so I know from personal experience that one can "Mexicanize" (or any other country) their desires and tastes if they've really got a mind to. All the stuff and nonsense about certain U.S. brands being essential to happiness results from the overactive function of our "monkey brain" working overtime.
Also, a number of people I meet live with one foot in the states and the other in Mexico, mentally. I think they'd be a lot more content if they moved both feet to one place or the other and have done with it.
Just my cranky opinion, of course.

Will never happen gringal. The supermarkets in the "heartland/fly over states" (not CA, of course), are now full of Mexican food and products that you would never see or dream about 30 years ago and before.
Same thing in Ireland, every fair sized town has a Polish grocery store.....guess why?
Immigrants sometimes change locals more than the other way around. I see an awfully lot of US made food items being snatched by Mexicans at Costco every time I'm there. I know, as I wait patiently behind the very full carts and wagons in the long lines.
