No water
We have been without water for several hours in Ajijic Centro. Anyone know what's going on?? Suspect it might have something to do with the construction on Colon but not sure. Anyone know when it will be back on?

Re: No water
I live in Ajijic centro. The city water goes off all the time. I can tell because my garden hoses are plumbed directly from the street. Today they didn't work until about 4:00pm. All my other water comes from my aljibe (water storage tank) which hold about a weeks worth of water so these temporary outages are no matter.
Don't you have an aljibe at your place?

No...we're renting and there is no aljibe.

No Tinaca on the roof? Pretty rare that you have neither. Check, your Tinaca could be empty or plugged up.

Re: No water
Aljibe is an underground cistern,. Do you have a tinaco on your roof? If not I would ask the landlord to install one or move if he refuses.

Re: No water
Yes, for sure. I have never seen a place without one, the other or both. Relying on the city water directly will not be fun.
Re: No water
Yep CB is right water goes off all the time in Centro Ajijic. It was off yesterday from 8am til midnight or so just above the highway above sky fitness. I did walk by and they were working on the fresh water pipes down Colon. The pipes on the west side are water, the east side sewer. Could explain. I agree with CB store some water and you can flush the you know what by pouring water into the bowl. You should have spare drinking water anyway if we have a disaster. Half my house is ancient and the locals told me that I have a 4000 gallon tank under my house because in this part of town water use to be on twice a week if lucky. I also have 400 gallons on roof and in past have used water fountain water at old house to flush toilets. Any port in storm.

Re: No water
Maybe Bonjon42 used water like NoB and has exhausted the supply in the tinaco. A running toilet or leaking faucet will empty one in a heartbeat.
When street water is off, it is time to conserve. If there is a pool or a fountain, flushing water is available via a bucket. Otherwise, call for a ‘pipa‘ water truck from the city, when they re-open the SIMAPA office, or buy some garafones from the trucks passing by on the street.

Re: No water
Last year in Chiapas we had no water for a month . We quickly bought bunch of garafons and reused the water. Bush with water used for dishes , Forgt bout moping every day. The problem there is that there is no poable water to be had. It was a real pain...We also learned how listen to the water delivery at night when the water came back and check the level of the aljibe on a regular basis. If I had not watered the garden I could have saved a lot of water but I did not know the water was not being delivered..
It is amzing how much water we use a day even when we try to save.

No kidding. And you only notice it when it's a problem. Every time you turn around you want water for something.
It took the workers a good while to replace the pipe on Colon between the carretera and Zaragoza. I noticed this morning that they are now working on the stretch between Zaragoza and the plaza, and aren't too far into it. If this project was affecting my water supply, I'd be looking for a workable "short term" solution post haste. Being without water is a real pain, much more so than being without electricity.

When I went to the cottage in the winter, and everything was shut down, I went out on the ice with my chainsaw.
Glad I don't do that anymore.

I don't know for sure but it looks like it is the size of a Pemex truck and very old but we don't run out of water but we do have to pump it to the roof when the roof runs out. This property has four water pumps to move water around!! I have never seen anything like it. It took a year to get all the leaks out of house. Funny part was new part of house had more leaks than the old side of the house. I am suspicious they used the water in old days for orchard and such on the hill. Get various answers about history of property but orchard would explain all the water storage under the house in the hill. Yes it is ridiculously large but glad I have it. Last old house on Zarragoza had half a pool underground doing the same thing leaving a 1 ft deep wading pool on top. Not so unusual to have a huge tank I guess.

Re: No water
Large underground cisterns are quite common. There is one on the water system I help to maintain that has a capacity of about 100 cu. mtrs. = 26,417 US gallons. It lasts our little community about 24 hrs. during the dry season!!!
