Aduana trcking illegal foreigner cars? Will they visit you soon?

If you think aduana will not come looking for you and your car once you are permanente or you were temporal and renewed late, you may want to think twice, it may be happening.

We did a notice of new immigration document for a lady but she had let her immigration document lapse for a few weeks. Aduana responded to our notice saying that due to her doing a regularization they were not extending or renewing her car permit and that her car was illegal and she should apply for a retorno seguro. The notification was done less than two months ago.

We have received those notices before and inform the clients and that is usually the end of it.... until this week when a notification arrives at out office for this lady and it says REMINDER your car is illegal and needs to be taken out of Mexico. They might be starting to track and they would only go to the trouble if they were going to follow up after the fact. Stay tuned!

I know a lady who went permanente and then took her U.S. plated car back NOB. She neglected though ot have the sticker removed knowing she wasn't going to bring it back or bring in another one. She actually bought a Mexican plated car when she got her permanente,

She now lives NOB but will be coming back to visit occasionally.

I told her not to come in as a tourist.

How long can someone with a permanente stay out of Mexico w/o problems?

There are no time restrictions under the new laws. The Mexican consulates do have programs for turning in car stickers and having the cars taken out of the system at various consulates at various times during the year.
