Extraordinary Book
Written by Shel Silverstein, an amazing talent - songwriter, poet, illustrator. This book is now 40 years old, it is the first time I have seen an electronic edition (.pdf)
Download for free (unofficially), great book for family of all ages.

LISTEN TO THE MUSN'TS
Listen to the MUSN'TS child
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS
The IMPOSSIBLES, the WONT'S
Listen to the NEVER HAVES
Then listen close to me--
Anything can happen, child,
ANYTHING can be

Re: Extraordinary Book
Wasn't Shel Silverstein a close friend of Johnny Cash?

Re: Extraordinary Book
Ah, yes, I have an old used copy of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" in my bookcase. The illustrations are as good as the poems.

For a New York Jewish college boy, he certainly developed a wide clientele for his songs. Cash's "Boy named Sue" was written by Silverstein. He also wrote the Unicorn" song for the Irish Rovers, co-wrote with Kris Kristofferson, many chart toppers for Dr. Hook. All while being an illustrator for Playboy magazine, children's book author, father, and performing his own songs.
Some will say this is off topic for Mexico - but I am discovering that many people who have chosen Mexico to live out their lives have the childlike sense of wonder and imagination which Silverstein celebrated so well.
Here is a song of his about Johnny Cash. All his songs tell a clear story, but often with an unexpected twist.

Re: Extraordinary Book
You are right - of course.
I didn't know he wrote a double album in 1998 for a country 'super group' made up with Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare, Jerry Reed and Mel Tillis. They called themselves the "Old Dogs", and many songs are about growing older and memories. Silverstein died of a heart attack soon after this release

Re: Extraordinary Book
Sorry to keep on about this. But the interview of the Old Dogs on Jimmie Dean Show, circa 1998, is pure classic gold, particularly in to the 4 and 5 parts. These are great, unusual people, who emerged from U.S. poverty and with relentless talent and hard work became great, memorable figures which will be remembered in future generations. This interview is not only funny, but a piece of history - are 60 year old men obsessed with sex? I guess they were in 1998.
