Semi-public parking on streets.
In advance of the snowbirds arriving, I have to say in the last couple of years, street parking in Chapala centro has become a real problem. I sometimes have to park 3-4 blocks from where I need to go.
What is really frustrating is that people seem to be able to "reserve" parking space by simply turning a bucket upside down in a parking area, or putting a chair or two on the street to reserve the space.
I know sometimes it's needed for deliveries, but I think sometimes it's reserving the space for a friend or even for themselves for when they return.
Oh well, as my doctor always says: "Walking is healthy."

Re: Semi-public parking on streets.
It is the way it is here in Chapala, carry a spare and a bucket in your trunk
.
If you notice the police have their own version of that - they put up "parking for official vehicles only" signs around their building but use that area to park their own cars in. It is rare to see a police vehicle parked there - causing the real official vehicles to have to find parking in the residential areas - maybe that is who made you walk the three blocks.
On Sunday afternoon parking in Chapala Centro is definitely difficult but there are large parking lots opposite the yacht club that are free to park in but not many people use them even on Sundays.

People can pay to make the space in front of their property exclusive parking. I have done it for people and will do it in front of my place so my clients will always have a front spot.

Does that apply to residences or just commercial businesses, what does it cost, where do you apply for it and how is it enforced?Intercasa wrote:People can pay to make the space in front of their property exclusive parking. Re: Semi-public parking on streets.
We have one of those licenses. I thought it had to be in front of the garage for access in and out. If not just for the garage I am going to use mine for right in front of my house because the restaurant staff parks there all day and also all night when there is plenty of parking on the major street to the north. Yes, I could park around the corner too but really we don't complain so neighborliness would be appreciated. I don't mind the night time parking but they should walk the extra block for daytime.
Although I could do the time honored 2 buckets of cement, but that would be sniggly and would wish they would agree to be considerate during the day.

Living right next door to the LCS I would love to have exclusive parking in front of my place. Let's talk Spencer!!
Re: Semi-public parking on streets.
I did ti for a client over a year ago and transito has to approve it and then you pay the municipality. You paint the space and if anybody parks there transito can fine and or tow them away.

Re: Semi-public parking on streets.
I know this is an old thread but I finally got exclusive parking permit for the front of my house. You need to paint the curb yellow, put up signs and include your permit #'s on both the curb and signs. Works well when done properly. If anyone parks there I can call the transitos and they will fine and tow.

How long is the permit good for?

It is a lease with the muni that you renew every year. They actually spell out that 13 meters x 2 meters of the street is for my exclusive use. It also had to be signed off on by the Transitos. It is about $2000 per year.

I assume for a shorter length it would be less?

I don't think there are shorter lengths. It is by the year. You need to invest in paint, poles, signs, etc. You renew it every January.

Is it conceivable a majority of property owners might invest in exclusive parking rights in the future? The feature might raise a property's value.
I'm thinking of High Season in Ajijic. Would put parking in Brooklyn to shame.

Alternatively, one can buy a house with a garage on the "no parking" side of a one way street.
Wanna buy my house, anyone? It's for sale.

There are 2 or 3 pay parking lots in Ajijic Centro that are under utilized. When the water is down there is a ton of parking along the malecon and in front of Maria Isabella (although not much space there now and probably none again in another month).

Considering the traffic on that street, it's well worth what you are paying for it.

Yep, and being near two other hotels I need parking for me and my guests if they bring a car.

I'm confused. I thought the yellow line meant no parking for anyone. Apparently I am wrong. Do I understand that you can park there without getting a ticket?
Please explain. :)

Re: Semi-public parking on streets.
If the yellow line does not display the permit #'s it is likely not legal or enforceable other than obvious lines near municipal offices, etc. I see many people/businesses painting their curbs illegally. They should ticket them for that.
And yes I can park in my own exclusive spot. They won't randomly ticket without a phone call.
