Yep but each repeater will slow down things a little but it should work. My repeater knocks my 10 down to 8.

Call Telmex in Mexico city and complain.  They'll likely fix it.  They did mine.

10 down to 8!!!!!!!!!! Brings tears to my eyes. I'm about 4 KM from the Ajijic switching center. On a good day I get 1,6 mbps. That is when its not failing every half hour or so.

Thanks to Helperguy I ended up ordering a couple of the Lynksys PLWK400 WiFi powerline systems at $51 USD each.

I'll post when I receive and install them.

Cable modem has 10 for watching baseball in HD.  DSL Telmex modem can only run to 2 at most and I keep it as a backup. Running it at one means it always works in the rain. Problem can't be fixed as wire is too long to DSL switch.   Telecable works in more areas at higher speeds than Telmex.  Repeaters do kill some speed and I see no difference between repeaters as far as performance.  Some are easier to set up than others.  I use Amped wireless units available at Fry's because they are easy to set up and have a external antenna connection which allows you to use Asus 9db gain external antenna or Corner antenna which concentrate the signal into a 90 degree spread.  Do your research as I can get signal on the other side of 2ft rock adobe walls with right setup.  External antenna connectors also allow you use extention cords for external antenna.   PM me if you want to see what you can do with wifi in these stone houses.  A friend of mine 3/4 of a mile away can still see my signal.

Perhaps I'm confused. I thought PowerLine devices were just a type of device that allowed you to use your home's power wiring instead of running chunky Ethernet cables all over the place. You plug in one PL device to power and to your main router or modem (Wifi-capable or not) with a short Ethernet cable. Then you plug in another PL device into a power plug anywhere else in the same home (i.e.: inside the home's external power transformer) and then plug a device needing an internet connection (computer, Vonage phone box, etc.) into it. Nothing to do with WiFi or wireless connections.

How would this type of device act to extend a weak WiFi network so you can wirelessly connect devices (laptops, iPads, etc) where the signal is now too weak?

Two types of repeaters.

Repeaters that send signal on AC wiring and rebroadcast a wifi signal from second black box plugged into wall.

Repeaters that pick up Wifi signal from first box and rebroadcast it at full strength from second black box plugged into wall. First box sends signal to second box and you can keep daisy chaining if you want. Problem is each repeater slows things down a little.

Note slowdowns can occur from Too low wifi signal causing resends or using a repeater which increases signal strength but does take a little bit of performance in the process of repeating. I use the second type of repeater and the original 10 down signal falls to 8 when going through the repeater. I do not know results of the first type of repeater as never used one.
