Temporary Resident Visa
I am in the process of moving to Lakeside effective Nov 1/14. I phoned the Mexican Embassy in Calgary and was told I could get my 4 year Temp. Res. Visa issued there. When I arrived I found this was not the case. They only issue a 6 months Temp. Res. Visa and once I arrive in Mexico I have 30 days to apply for my 4 year Temp. Res. Visa. I have no problem with this but I was also told by the embassy in Calgary that the maxim car permit I could get was for 6 Months and I would have to leave Mexico every 6 months to get it renewed. It was my understanding my car permit would be for the same length of time as my Temp. Res. Visa. Does anyone have any information on this and could you recommend someone that could look after helping me get my 4 year Temp. Res. Visa and what the costs might be.

Re: Temporary Resident Visa
You cannot get a 4-year Residente Temporal the first time. You will be limited to a one-year RT. Upon renewal at the end of the first year, you can get a three-year RT.
You car's permit is good for as long as your RT is valid, but you must notify Aduana when you change a status, such as going from the initial FMM to an RT, and again when you renew your RT. This notification does NOT require going to the border.

Re: Temporary Resident Visa
firstly, that is not an embassy but a consulate in calgary. we got an fm3 there 8 years ago. if you can prove your income as required for a temporal you should be able to apply for it there and then go to inm here before 30 days when you get here to register it. a temporal is for 1 year and renewable for 3 more years and you can have your alberta plated vehicle here for that length of time. i still have my moto and truck here legally after 8 years.
