I'm not there and neither is anyone else posting on this board, but this is what is on the news.
The Mexican force was conducting an operation that started about 150 meters south of the border apprehending 4 coyotes and releasing 39 migrants that they were sheparding towards the Papago Indian Reservation or the Arizona side. A lot of confusion and people running helter/skelter in all directions.
A technical act of war?....kind of pushing the envelope...two guys on the other side sitting in an unmarked vehicle.
I don't know what versions other people have heard, but it sounds like they believe it was a "fly by, let's take a pot shot at the gringo policía". Or maybe it was a real Pancho Villa style incursion across the border.
Where is Pershing when we need him?

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
Now, here's the Mexican version of the story. Very different. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/06/27/mexican-helicopter-shots-border/11538239/
And a little bit about the area where it all happened. I wonder which side the locals were cheering for.

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
The hell with whatever really happened. The US should invade Mexico and teach ´em all a lesson--as soon as they are finished in Iraq and Syria. USA! USA!

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
I bet the US has crossed the Mexican border many times more than Mexico has crossed our border in US/Mexico history. Lets not make 100ft into something much worse. Mistake, bad mistake for sure but I can't get too upset over this. War? Hardly.

I also bet the US has fired off munitions on many countries' sovereign soil (or airspace as the case may be) without express permission. Those drones they have flying around the middle east take shots all the time and in a few cases take out innocent civilians.
I doubt they do much apologizing........

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
I would think the ocal were hoping both sides would kill each other and be gone.
Interesting how the dispute is over land that was stoen from the native by both sides....

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
A couple of years ago a US Border Patrol agent fired his weapon into Mexico, killing an innocent young Mexican boy in his own country. The agent was completely exonerated, (surprise, surprise). No apology was made.

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
I am sure there are a lot of examples. I believe the point here is that "shit happens" and on Mexico's part this is certainly no "act of war" or anything that even remotely resembles it. Just a mistake that fortunately didn't result in any injuries.
Re: BORDER INCIDENT
Rational people will recognize it for that, a mistake. Unfortunately I believe that the point is how it is blown completely out of proportion in the US. Just another excuse to slam Mexico.

Exactly. The US invades at will. When you live in a glass house.....

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
Neither country is seeing it as a big deal, not sure why some here are so upset about it. I agree with Bob, these kinds of minor, very quick incursions are hardly unique anywhere.
As I noted, the border zone is basically populated by three armies and some times they get confused about who is who, particularly since the narcos are very good at playing dress up in the uniforms of both countries.

" War? Hardly"
Not such a sure thing if the POTUS was James K. Polk, G. W. Bush, or John McCain. Those guys can easily get provoked into a war over land, oil, or being humiliated by a 90 lb. weakling.

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
This is a minor border incident being rightly handled by the two nations involved.

I bet this things happen a lot from both sides and the governments know it and it is only a big deal for people who want to make it a big deal.

It is certainly made easier when the two nations involved have good relations.

Mexico is practicing international invasions because they are planning to get a foothold in Europe - probably staring with Holland!

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
I don't think that any citizen from a country which practices detention without due process and a history of invading foreign nations under false pretenses has a right to any sense of moral outrage for a minor border incident and the imprisonment of what seems to be a very troubled young man. Sense of entitlement indeed.

Re: BORDER INCIDENT
You are on to something there casi. In International Politics there is a doctrine of 'just or unjust wars'. The United States has become a defender of territories gained by unjust wars, along with the United Nations. They form coalitions, trade embargos, etc. to force the transgressors to give the territories back. Yet the U.S.A., by their own admission, took Mexican owned territories just because they wanted/needed it. Clearly an unjust war and arguably the only unjust war the U.S.A. ever entered into.
