Swamp Coolers Empty Swamp Coolers

Post by Guest Sat Apr 17, 2010 5:59 pm

Anyone that can provide info would be appreciated. Based on how hot it is now, I would not be surprised if we hit the mid to upper nineties next month. Anybody have one? what was the cost? What was the installation cost? Any help would be appreciated. I have five ceiling fans and one floor fan, but I am still muy caliente and it will only get worse. Wish I had the money to go away for May. Thanks, Zoey

Pete Jahansen has an article in this week's Guadalajara Reporter on swamp coolers. He has a couple. For details ask him.

Or perhaps google it Zoey. If you do build one please let us know how effective it is. I was wondering the same thing.

His article is exactly what prompted my topic. Although , he seems to have unlimited financial resources. I do not. Zoey

get a block of dry ice, a fan, have the fan blowing on the dry ice. Make sure you have something to catch the melting ice. Enjoy the cool breeze

"Make sure you have something to catch the melting ice."

Huh? Dry ice leaves no liquid melt, only CO²

Swamp coolers work well when the RH is less than 40%. Above that, their usefulness falls pretty quickly. I'm sitting under one right now. At my house here on the desert, they do a good job when the temp is below 95°; above that they start to fade pretty fast.

OK, that was cute. Where do I get dry ice down here and the reason it is called dry ice is that it does not melt. Zoey

Rolly, the RH here is usually under 40 , other than during the rainy season from mid- June through September. At my place it is currently 28. Do you have a wall model vented to the outside? Any idea what the cost of one is? Recommended brand name, etc? We are hitting mid to upper 80's here right now and we still have May to go through. Projections are that this will be our warmest May in years. Thanks, Zoey

Swamp Coolers BL-ACtinaco This is roof-mounted whole house model.

In my house, as in most homes here, I have single room units which are mounted on the wall outside the house with a slot in the wall for the air to blow in. (no picture, sorry) These wall units come in several sizes. It's been years since I bought one, so I don't know the cost. The installation on and through the wall, electrical and water hookups will probably cost more than the unit. You need to visit an A/C dealer.

Swamp Coolers Empty Solar?

Post by mrum Mon Apr 19, 2010 7:21 pm

Are there any dealers for solar driven air conditioners/heaters in the area? I would think that this would be a natural option in an area with so much sunshine. And once the initial purchase was made the operating costs would be virtually zero.

We were there on Sunday Apr 18th and they only had a few of the smaller ones left......
