Last day for XP updates
If your computer is running on Windows XP, today (Tuesday 8 April) is the last day you can get updates for your system. To check if you are missing any, click on Start > Help and Support > Windows Update.
Re: Last day for XP updates
Apparently not just the last date for updates from MS but also for antivirus software and any other software updates?

As far as MS is concerned, XP no longer exists.

Re: Last day for XP updates
Just get rid of MS Security Essentials if you do an update. Didn't want the constant notices

Aren't they supporting MS Security Essentials until July 2015?

From MS:
" What is Windows XP end of support?
Microsoft provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But the time came for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences.
As a result, technical assistance for Windows XP is no longer available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft has also stopped providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP. (If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC is secure because Microsoft is no longer providing security updates to help protect your PC.)

Re: Last day for XP updates
All three computers that were compromised by an Anonymous group attack had MS Security Essentials. When the local ISP picked up on the compromised state, they identified the virus as being Zeus Zbot. After the fact when we ran a MS Security Essentials deep scan, there were 9 different Trojan viruses/bots.
When discussing the various problems with the tech at the repair shop, he explained that none of the available free or pay antivirus software programs were 100% effective. Even though this particular shop didn't sell the program, they were recommending Norton 360 as the best and most effective program currently available.

Maybe but you'd have to put up with the constant warning that XP support is over and time to upgrade. I removed it after 2 days of being reminded
