Balcon Del Cielo (hotel) in Guanajuato
Just wondering if anyone has ever stayed at this establishment? Located at the top of the funicular adjacent to Monumento al Pipila. While we have made reservations, we can bail without penalty if we have made a mistake.

While it is a nice view from up there, it will be a PIA to get around unless you take a cab everywhere. The funicular is not open that early or late. We always stay in the San Diego Hotel right in the plaza.

Thank you for your comments and observations. We did take a look at the San Diego and a couple of others around the Jardin and read the reviews. There seemed to be a fair number of negative comments about the noise levels on outside rooms and the somewhat claustrophobic nature of the interior facing rooms.
When reading the reviews on Balcon Del Cielo, the operation hours of the furnicular were mentioned as being restrictive, so I went in search of the hours and found 9am to 9:30pm. Since we leave being "party animals" to younger folk such as yourself, we figured the hours would work. But in a pinch, we could always take one of Guanajuato's inexpensive taxis. Granted it was a guess but we did figure that we might find a lower noise level up on the hill? After our experience staying right on the Zocalo in Puebla, we scratched staying at a hotel with plenty of activity out front off our "bucket list"!

Around the base of Pipila, used to be a popular spot for kids to meet and "party", late at night, on the weekends and holidays....at least in years gone by. Easy to join in.... .

Re: Balcon Del Cielo (hotel) in Guanajuato
We just spent a Sunday and Monday night at Balcon del Cielo. We didn't find our movements restricted in any way by the operating hours of the funicular since one always has the option of taking a taxi to the road above the hotel. We parked our car at a lot above the hotel and it ran $90MXN with the deal worked out by the hotel. Hauling a bunch of heavy luggage down the stairs from parking was a PITA! There are guys available to tote luggage but if we stay there again in the future, we would pack light overnight bags. We had a pass to the funicular that allowed unlimited free trips. While we had "issues" with the hardness of the beds, we did enjoy our room with its large terrace overlooking the City. The Balcon del Cielo is the building adjacent to the funicular.

Here is a video shot from the terrace of our room - originally about two hours (but condensed) that shows the sun setting to total darkness and then getting light the next morning:
HINT: Since it is still longer than I would really like, once you start the video you should be able to fast forward using your right arrow key. Interesting to watch the shadow climbing the hills as the sun goes down but not quite the same when the sun rises.

No because the video camera was unattended sitting on a tripod. One of these days, I will get smart enough to figure out how to speed up the video. I have been working on it but so far no go.
