Flying to cuba Empty Flying to cuba

Post by Warren Mon Dec 23, 2013 11:12 am

I realize this is an unusal question & possibly the wrong area to post but I thought I'd try here since it gets the most traffic.
Is there any search engine that will indicate the best airfare price over a period of time to either Havana orVaradero from say Cancun.
I tried "Matrix" & even the "Aeromexico" website but neither even lists any flights, yet surely Aeromexico flies there routinely.
Any thoughts? Thanks

You might try this site:

Results of Google search for "Cuba flights from Cancun":

we flew to cuba a couple of years ago from guadalajara. as to flights from cancun,a friend did it for about $50us one way he claimed. they may not list it because it is so cheap because it is a very short flight.

Thanks for the replies folks, but none of the suggested links give date / comparison pricing & if you plug in specific dates you get crazy pricing & that are not direct (some with 6hr plus travel). As a comparison you can readily get flights from Cabo to Cancun for less than anything I've found for Cancun to Havana????
Possibly as Pedro states whatever is available is too low for search engines to bother with. (If I could find a flight for $50 I'd be all over it ... as would everyone)
The search continues.
Regards

you will not find it in search engines out of the usa. when we looked we just found info from the rest of the world which was of no use to us at all. we used a travel agent here. if you're going to go to habana from cancun, just make the arrangements there. you can practically spit to cuba from cancun,it is so close. there are flights from miami to habana but i don't think you will find them on line nor what the carrier is.

There are only a couple of flights that are direct from DF or Cancun and the prices are pretty high considering how close it is: from 6000 pesos to 9000? when it cost as low as 1000 pesos for the two hours to Tuxtla..I know it is international but it strikes me as a rip off...

it is my understanding that cubana and aeromexico fly at least twice/week from cancun to habana.
as to your df price, we paid less from guadalajara to df to habana

David, if you use kayak or any of the usual search engines & enter Havana you won't end up in Cuba but more likely some smal burg in the US. At least that has been my experience.

Can you use your Temporal or permanente card to enter Cuba, as opposed to a passport?

Highly unlikely Cuba would recognize a Mexican residency visa as a legal entry document.

Years back... when we had a place on Isla Mujeres....
I remember one evening having a stroll on the beach.... we came upon one of the soldiers positioned on the Eastern Beaches ( open water side of island ) I asked what they were looking for??

Probably not however you will still need to present it (not a Mexican Residency Visa) for entry into Cuba as per the question.

Thank You Neil.......I know many US citizens have visited Cuba, living in Mexico. Just wonder how they circumvented the system, avoided applying for the permit, which could take a long time. BTW, what might the penalty be if a US citizen visited Cuba without US permission.

Jim:

In your case, I think the Cubans would want your Voter Registration Card!

As for the penalty: "But without the proper permission, getting caught can result in 10 years in prison and $250,000 in individual fines."
And how can you doubt the source: http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2013/04/08/how-to-get-in-trouble-traveling-to-cuba/

CB, I am wondering if anyone has been prosecuted over the past 5 years for visiting Cuba?   I hear it is a nice place to visit? Last I heard, Tiger Woods was designing a golf course in Cuba.......MONEY talks, bullshit walks I guess?

that site has loads of info & would probably be of use to track down flights if still current but if I read the dates correctly these are historical prices/flights/hotels going back to 2008/2009 ... I think!
