Need info about flying with dog
Soon we will fly to Ajijic from US. Does anyone know what paperwork we will need for her? I appreciate any help that you can give. Thanks

hogline, your best bet is to contact your airline. Rules regarding pet transportation are subject to change.

Just be sure you have all your Vet records in order. Be sure and research what's currently needed.

There are two different sets of requirements: (1) Those of the airline you are using; and (2) Those of the Mexican government once you land.
For the requirements of the Mexican Govt., you can go to the following website to obtain the latest requirements for bringing cats and dogs into Mexico: www.senasica.gob.mx. I usually email them if I need clarification of any requirement.

Also bring a lot of patience.
It takes at least 1/2 hour to clear a dog through customs in Guad.

Make sure your vet certificates are within 10 days of arrival in Mexico.
Re: Need info about flying with dog
Do I need an International Health Certificate or can this be on my vet's letterhead? I am flying United and they say they do not require any documentation but I hear that other airlines do so that makes me wonder if I am getting the correct information. I want this to go as smooth as possible. When we go to Canada the boarder guards are always so nice, they just look at her rabies record tell us to have a good trip. We have a vet appointment 8 days before our flight but apparently not many dogs from Duluth Minnesota go to Mexico so our vet is also checking to see what the dog needs. As far as I see on the Mexican Consulate site it is just current rabies. Has anyone traveled with their dog recently? Thanks

I will check with the senasica site to see what that says.

Re: Need info about flying with dog
I brought my dog back to Mexico 3 weeks ago.
I had a health certificate which was issued in Mexico 6 months minus 3 days earlier.
I also had a current record of his rabies, and advantix treatments.
The people at customs took all the information, plus my address and phone number and filled out all the paperwork for me to sign.
It took time, but was otherwise painless.

Re: Need info about flying with dog
Very different flying into Guadalajara with a pet than driving. Paperwork MUST be in order as to how Mexico wants it or they can keep your pet until it is straightened out. Best to have the phone number of a local vet handy just in case there is a problem with the health certificate the vet can come straighten it out. Problems don't happen often, but when they do your dog could be held in Mexican Customs overnight if they find any little thing wrong with your paperwork. We use to travel with our small dog in the cabin. Coming back home to GDL has gotten so stressful we now leave him with sitters here.

Can anyone give me the name and phone number of a reliable vet so that I can have that with me as Joyfull suggests. That is a wonderful idea. Thanks
