Early Spanish explorers to the Americas experienced a periodic warm, steady rain during the usually dry season of winter. Since it was soft and warm and fresh and arrived around Christmas time, they called it "El Niño," in honor of the little baby Jesus. Now, I ain't sayin' this is a full-on El Niño...but kinda nice just the same.

The winter rains, mis queridos amigos chapalenses, are referred to as "las cabañuelas". And according to old tradition serves to predict the weather for the coming year.

Y con esa pequeñita detalla, me despido de ustedes. Hasta muy pronto y que tengan una muy buena noche.

We look forward with interest to hearing more from you "Enrique Pena." How nice of you to take time at this busy holiday season to join our web board and tell us about the rain. We have had several people join our web board in the past few days just to start trouble. They got tossed off very quickly. You, Enrique, are so very different from them--a, as we say in English, breath of fresh air.

back to rain - it actually is in the forecast again - for Wednesday/Thursday by both weather underground and weather.com.  It is unusual for them to be in sync - and weather underground seems more credible (understanding that it is still not that credible)
for those that are interested:

http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Chapala+MXDO0241:1:MX

http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:00000.12.76613

and yeah - Wednesday is a long ways away when it comes to weather
