You think you have a problem? How about the bunch of folks who didn't sell enough candy to get their reward of Hawaii and ended up in Fargo?

Congratulations for making it out of Peoria upon Sump. Sounds like you are perhaps a little closer to your destination. Last I heard Sioux Falls has not yet closed their Subway. So eat, drink, and be merry. Or eat, drink, and be Mary if it suits you better. Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad

Take the next bus to Jal, New Mexico, Dawg. I promise you that you'll miss both Peoria AND Sioux Falls.

I arrived by plane, actually, but I've never had the feeling I got off at the wrong stop. I am also very glad I purchased a one-way ticket. I've never had the desire to return.

Oh say, Lehrer... don't you remember the movie Saving Grace"? British comedy about a Lady whose Sir died broke and left her in debt. So she ups and has her gardener help her grow some dynamite weed. Exceptionally funny story follows. mariachi Lizzy

An amusing comment even if you did settle in Michoacan.

Say, what happened to your Mexican food expert amiga and Michoacan cuisine tout who was unaware of the fact that hens can lay eggs without prerequisite rooster penetration? If one is unaware of where one is going it makes no difference what bus one takes.

I am reminded of an old joke from the 1960s told by the long-dead African-American comedian Dick Gregory - an amusing fellow if there ever was one. It seems there was this game among African-Americans then called Freedom Rider Roulette. The player was presented with a fedora containing six Greyhound Bus tickets and the participant was required to be blindfolded and draw one ticket from the hat. In that hat were five tickets to Chicago and one ticket to Birmingham. An old joke more amusing in its dated context. But then Dick Gregory has been dead forever.

I think we might agree, Peter, that Mexico, in which Dawg and Brigitte and you have lived for some 10 years and Tere much longer than that , has been a great ride and that journey back to the states will never happen even in a coffin. I´m leaving your name and address with the federales and if those Familia Michoacana clowns kill me on the way to Zihuatanejo, have the locals cremate me where I am found.

She is just another of several that disappeared from MC right around the same time. Though I suspect we all had different reasons for leaving scuttlebutt has it, like you, for her it was by invitation. I still continue to make a token post there about once a week. A friend did send me a link to a travel and tourism column that mentions her conducting a tour where she is regarded as a star protegé of Diana Kennedy but without the fried insects or orange soda.

Don't worry Dawg, I let the family know you were coming. You're supposed to have safe passage at least up to that last caseta in Guerrero, after which you are on your own. But they tell me if Felipe's boys get antsy and start raising ruckus again you might have to fend for yourself. Otherwise, we're all just one big happy family here in Michoacán.

Yup, an old 'Nard-core like me has found a happy home here in Michoacán and I won't be leaving it even feet-first. I've promised my body to one of the finest taco stands in the municipio - just hope they don't run out of stray dogs and come looking for me ahead of time.

In case you don't make it to Guatapeor del Norte before your next birthday I might see you in Ajijic and invite you to Bubba's for a BBQ pork sandwich. It's Tere's birthday on 2 Jan with mine coming up about 5 weeks or so later so I'll need to take her to her favorite vacation spot so she can get some coconut cream pie at Panino's.
