Do we have to renew our Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
Sorry if I am repeating this topic. I just saw this today on another board and see it's dated November 15th. It was not exactly clear to me if I have to 'renew' my TIP or not. I have a 'temporal' visa, which is current. It was my understanding that as long as our visa was current, that is all we needed?
Is that still the case, or someone changed??
Thanks.

Aduana now accepts an official request form and instructions for foreigners to report changes or expiration date renewals. We thank Ric Hoffman for reporting this very useful information, for people who don't have an Aduana office "down the block". Readers who want to renew/extend the expiration dates on their vehicle's Temporary Import Permits can use this form.
You have 2 options: Ric created a good .pdf file if you want to use it (see below) or cut and paste the text format form listed below. The instructions of what information/documents to include and addresses are listed in the instructions on the second page. No Sherman, ask Hocks about it! Tip must be renewed, Spencer can do the paperwork. Now that MX has bumped the fee over $400.00, it pays to do the paperwork!

Sherman:
Have you asked yourself just why Steven Fry aka Yucalandia is posting on forums for the Lake Chapala area when he lives in SE Mexico? Unlike Rollybrook who earned his stripes via honest, informative and candid posts on his website, Steve Fry is attempting to assemble the "minions" through boring posts with info found on Google.

Thanks. I will check with Spencer.
And, just for the record, Steve Fry did not post on a private board here lakeside. Someone else who lives here lakeside posted his post because that person follows his posts.

Re: Do we have to renew our Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
If you paid a deposit, TIP issued after June 2011 you MUST notify aduana or else they will cancel your permit and take your deposit. Those with TIPs issued prior to June 2011 it is voluntary, however... doing so makes it easier during a traffic stop and if you do a border run to go shopping you can say you have registered your TIP so they will not make you get a new one and pay the fee nor deposit.
One HUGE issue is immigration placing random dates as the date of issuance of the new temporal cards where many times they place a date of issuance weeks or months before they give you the card thereby making the time to notify expire before you get the card. We have a few ways we deal with this but it is hit and miss and often requires follow up calls to aduana and even then we are having to make repeated visits to the new tax ombudsmans office in Guadalajara.
We do this registration for people, prepare triplicates of the forms and attachments and make 2 trips to aduana. You can do it yourself but people that have mailed forms have them often rejected after paying over 100 pesos to mail them certified, even then you will have no stamped receipt. Going to the airport you will have to pay for parking (I went to pick up my parents and parking was 35 pesos for 15 minutes). Also the walk is maybe a kilometer or so each way from the parking area at arrivals to the aduana entrance.
We charge 300 pesos and make 2 trips, one to get the papers stamped and the next week pick up a 2nd letter.

does the renewal have to be every year, even if you don't have to renew Visa?
Does the car renewal have to be done every year, even if your temporal is not due that year?
Thanks….
Thanks….

Car must be done anytime you get a new immigration document so for example if you get a new temporal this year, 2013 good for 3 years than you will be fine until 2016.
