Rechargeable Batteries Empty Rechargeable Batteries

Post by otrocanuck Mon Nov 11, 2013 3:26 pm

I have two 14.4 volt rechargeable drills that require new batteries. I know NoB you can have the batteries rebuilt, basically replacing the rechargeable batteries that are within the battery case. Does anyone know if there is someone providing this service here?

Yes Pedro, in the past I have found it cheaper to buy a complete drill kit instead of the batteries alone, I guess the volume of drills sold brings the price down to be cheaper then just two batteries. However these are good quality drills and here in Mx. the price of this quality would be very high, if available at all so I am looking for new cells for the battery pack in hopes of getting good batteries to go with the good drills.

dewalt is top of the line. i never scrimp on my tools and don't like being without a cordless drill . i got my last one NOB and had it brought down but the one before i got at home depot in guadalajara and yes they are more expensive. bite the bullet-jeje!

Those batteries need special charging to keep their health but only will charge so many times at best.

You need to run them all the way down before charging. One of the drill people told me that at HD one day. I was keeping them in a charger and he said to just run it down occassionally and it would last longer.

I, too, had both my DeWalt batteries run out, at the same time. No way to find replacements here. They only last three years, and I paid a premium for that yellow beauty drill. Since Black and Decker bought Dewalt, their product line is akin to what happened to Skype after Microsoft bought that company... going downhill faster than a frozen toboggan on an icy hill.

Get a drill that uses the newer lithium ion batteries. They are a 100% improvement over the NiCads. You can leave them in the charger to maintain a full charge unlike NiCads that need to be run dry before charging. They had a special deal on a Ryobi kit a few months ago at Home Depot, impact driver, hammer drill with 2 batteries for 2200 pesos. Ryobi gets a bum rap. I have had a number of far more expensive drills, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita etc and the Ryobi drills are superior in every way.

While a little more convenient, I gave up on cordless tools some time ago. I just get a longer extension cord now.

In the end, for many jobs, that's actually the best option for me, too. Even that great deWalt wasn't potent enough for a lot of my construction needs.

i have a ryobi sabre/jig saw and it's the best i've ever had. i used it professionally and still have it here.
for heavy duty drilling[like into 8"beams] i have a 1/2 inch corded drill but the cordless sure is convenient fer most work. i also have a brace and bits which i still use too-no battery required-jaja!

I happened to wander onto a youtube video that showed how to get more life from your tool batteries. Had something to do with reprograming them to accept a charge again. Try the search engine on youtube.

I agree,I'm still using the Milwaukee hammer drill I bought 25 years ago as well as the Sawzall and worm drive Skilsaw of the same vintage.

No doubt corded tools are the way to go most of the time. I too have a Skilsaw 77 from 30 years ago. The one cordless tool I couldn't do without is my impact driver.

I have a Sunbeam 110V corded drill with the metal case made in Chicago USA in the mid '50s. Finally going to need motor brushes as I have to give it a nude for it to start after sitting a long time.

You might check with the appliance repair shop on Colon one block North of the Carreterra.  He might know a place he can get it in GDL.
