Free change to Telmex plans

I got an email and they didn't mention internet, just that they are upgrading to a fiber optic network but...

On and after January 1, 2015

Free calls to cell phones unlimited as well as unlimited calls locally, nationally and internationally subject to restrictions on their web site which are not yet available but perhaps we can assume US and Canada. They also said world calls so we shall wait and see, maybe they will be putting vonage out of business. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

That is how you fight the VOIP business. If true very aggressive marketing to win!

I have an Ooma telo VOIP which has a US phone number and allows my friends to call me for free here also. I doubt it will go out of business because it's mainly marketed in the US for use as a main telephone service vs ATT and others which are very expensive.

Same with Vonage.

While calls to the continental US and Canada are unlimited, they are charged at 1 peso (plus IVA) per minute.
So VOIP will still be the best way to go if you make a lot of calls, or receive calls from NOB.
Removing the charges for calls to cell phones is good.

Looks like all the cell phone charges are removed only for those on the $599 Peso plan. The $399 gets 100 minutes free cell calls.

Hmm. I don't see a link to a PDF, only a link toa page that describes the free security suite.

The link is there down at the bottom. I think the (1) is for the 389/month plan, and the (2) is for the 599/month plan.

Whatever you do, don't call Cuba. Ouch.

Telmex "free" long distance is really 1 peso per minute plus IVA of .19 peso=1.19 peso per minute.  Today's exchange rate is 14.8 so that makes each "free" LD call cost .06 cents US.  My long distance calling plan with Phone Me in Mexico is only .03 cents US.  I reckon I'll just pass on Carlos Slim's offer.

So am I right that they just took away our 200 free US minutes, in exchange for not charging us for cell calls? No me gusta lo.

Also, 1.19 pesos is more like 8 cents, not 6. Crazy.

The $1.19 Pesos includes the tax. It's a whole $0.08 US.

Yes, I figured that out on my own. However when you advertise unlimited calling to somewhere, and then in the small print you put a price on it, it's not much of an offer. Although your brain may work differently, a lot of people will misconstrue the word unlimited to mean what it does on their Vonage ( or similar) plan, thinking it means that the calling is free, and included in their 599 peso plan, because they may not read the note . Granted, this is their own fault, but that doesn't make it rather misleading, and as someone else posted, they pay $0.03 U.S. a minute elsewhere, so that makes this not a great deal in any way compared to what other companies are offering.

So what they mean is that you can make unlimited calls at $0.08 US per minute?

Skype to the USA is about 2 cents/minute.

Or do what I do, don't call, use WhatApp!

Facetime is iPad to iPad, free calls. Also, Skype to Skype calls are free.
