APC Surge Protector recall
Ran across a msg on TOB about some (older) APC products that have been recalled - potential overheating or fire. Around 15 million units affected. I appreciated the info since I have (at least) one of these myself. Here's a link to the info on APC's website:

These are very old. They don't like up and down electricity get rid of them. Go to WalMart and buy a Monster Surge protector with a Joules rating larger than 500, below 500 are useless. Cut cord off recalled units and smash body so they cannot be used again. Remember they save everything in Mexico. Don't just throw it away.

How do I know if I have a recalled unit?
1. Look for bar code label on bottom of surge strip
2. Confirm that the Model Number is included in table below, AND
3. The two numbers that follow the first letter(s) in the serial number sequence indicate year of manufacture. The unit is included in the recall if the numbers are 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01,or 02
