Meet the Stojkos - of Ajijic
I love this story - they make such a nice couple and seem to be really enjoying their move to Ajijic. Toller Cranston, another world class skater, lives in San Miguel Allende and has a gallery/studio there. Sr. Stojko seems to travel a lot, so I'll bet he appreciates access to a world class airport nearby.

While the article is 2 years old it is great to see him extolling the virtues of living along the shores of Lake Chapala. Does anyone know if he still lives here?
Re: Meet the Stojkos - of Ajijic
Well he seems kind of quiet - as the article says, he has lived in Mexico for ten years now and no one knew it. Some friends of my wife bought his dirt bike enclosed utility trailer from him this past weekend - but they didn't say if they actually met him. Only Canadians recognize sports celebrities like figure skaters and curlers!

Wasn't he involved in a purified water or water purification business a while back. It was some Canadian skater, hockey player.

Three time World Champion and two time Winter Olympic medalist. A true gentleman and a driven competitor. He is the real deal - believe me.

Ummmmmm.......no. Lots of people who've been here a while have known. I remember the first time I saw him at Cafe Magana five years ago.CHILLIN wrote:Well he seems kind of quiet - as the article says, he has lived in Mexico for ten years now and no one knew it.
He does seem like a normal human being which for somebody so accomplished is very cool, indeed.

If memory serves, he and his wife (a Mx. skater) have a lovely home Lakeside. He still tours. He has an affiliation with a Guad. rink and provides skate sharpening with his own gear. He hits the trails dirt biking, quading, WE. He's always been a class act.

Imdb shows him as being 51 and in a 2012 TV movie.

Yes, he is a nice guy. Gladly posed for a picture when my wife ran into him at a lakeside restaurant a few years ago.
We had some friends that lived close to him. I think he sold his house a year or two ago because she wanted to be closer to her family. He may still own an apartment here though.

He moved to Mexico City more than 2 years ago when their new Ice Skating Rink opened. Not sure if his house and his mother's condo have sold.
Looks like he is as busy as ever:

Elvis Stojko and his wife, Gladys, are our neighbours and still live in Ajijic.
