PERFECT for signing up for anything that wants an email address, but you don't want all their crap.

As a matter of record yes, I don't use it for everything, just everything I don't want. For example online shopping, I don't have to worry about getting ads. Now if I buy and need to track the purchase I use another address, separate from my address I use for important stuff.

Re: Tired Of Spam?
I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around this.
1) I order something online using this fictitious address.
2) The merchant sends a confirmation of my order to that address.
3) If there are problems with the order, the merchant notifies me at that address.
4) Later, PERHAPS, they send promo's to that address. (Some of which I might actually want to see.)
How is using this fictitious address an advantage?
I can always use my REAL address (dedicated to online orders) and select the "UNSUBSCRIBE" link in their follow-up solicitations.
So, explain to me why this works better.

The danger in giving out your real address is not usually from the site in question. But sometimes, those address lists get sold or stolen, and then somehow, every spammer in the world has your address.
I use Spamgourmet, it basically allows you to create disposable email addresses. These normally expire after a preset number of emails, but you can renew them.

Re: Tired Of Spam?
I have had a yahoo.com address for more than a decade. Yahoo.com have made available "disposable" addresses without charge, to help combat SPAM. Although I haven't utilized that option, I used to get so many SPAMs that it was driving me crazy. But I am certain none of these came from online purchases; I bought very rarely over the Internet.peteben wrote:The danger in giving out your real address is not usually from the site in question. What I have discovered is that I am receiving fewer and fewer SPAM messages since I stopped reporting them to the ISP's of the senders. I did that for years, thinking I was helping to shut down SPAMMERs -- instead, it verified my e-mail address and apparently resulted in more SPAM.
I used to get 5 to 10 SPAMs daily; now I get 2 or 3 per week and just delete them.
So much for my previous activity/waste of time....
