VEHICLE MINIMUM/ MAXIMUM AGE TO NATIONALIZE
For years my understanding has been a vehicle must be 10 years old to Nationalize. Is there a maximum age?
People on other threads are nationalizing 5-7 year old vehicles. When did this change?
What's the true scoop?
TIA Jim W

Got my answer, it is down to 7 years, and changing annually.....youd a thunk they would have addressed this issue now, so everyone could nationalize!

I believe the time frame and age of the vehicles were negotiated under NAFTA. Why should they allow everyone to nationalize? Apparently, some seem to believe the Mexican government should be subservient to the wishes of a minute amount of foreigners who they graciously allow to reside in this country with a very minimal amount of requirements and bureaucratic red tape.

Re: VEHICLE MINIMUM/ MAXIMUM AGE TO NATIONALIZE
Not a big deal to me Bob, but since there is a crash program to get everyone on board with permanente, seems that they would make an allowance for people to Nationalize their vehicle. I must say though that the 10 year deal was a joke, allowing people to import junk vehicles, over 10 years old....they have limited value.
I have a NAFTA vehicle, 2011 ESCAPE, allowing nationalization, increases Mexican revenue, in license fees, insurance, etc., and the vehicle won't be junked! And I would be happy to Nationalize same!
For the record, I know many who drove their POS to Mexico planning on dumping it. Mexico should reverse deposits, charge $500 to bring in and get a TIP, for a 10 year old vehicle, $50 for new!

Re: VEHICLE MINIMUM/ MAXIMUM AGE TO NATIONALIZE
Jim, people that buy vehicles in this country pay taxes that someone who imports a vehicle avoid. The laws on importing vehicles are also intended to make it fair for Mexican car dealers who also have expenses that you may not face in the USA. There is a tax on all new vehicles, for example, that makes a vehicle here more expensive. Car dealerships have been trying for years to get the new car tax eliminated.
