I would like to know the basic start-up costs for satellite TV. I have the small dish on the roof and that's it.

What about buying used equipment; I see stuff quite often in the Ojo.

Thanks.

You need to check with the local satellite dealers.

For Shaw, you need a Canadian address or someone who will "stack" you on an active account (most of the local satellite companies can hook you up with this). Then you need a box which will run you anywhere from $1500 pesos to $5000 pesos depending on the features. Then you need an installation guy to aim your dish and run the cables. That will be about $1500 pesos but could be more if the situation is unusual.

So you will be looking at a minimum of about $3000 pesos to get up and running then whatever the monthly fees are.

We are assuming you mean Canadian Sat and not the two Mexican sat services
or the two US sat services.

Correct?

If you buy a used box/receiver it is buyer beware. If the box was activated and not paid, Shaw will require you to bring the account current before activating.

Apology, I was not clear.

I am looking at getting U.S. TV.

Does that change things?

You get US channels with Shaw.....I get Seattle and Detroit HD Networks. The only thing Shaw does not provide is ESPN.

Yes, it changes things. For starters your "little" dish is probably too small. You will likely need a bigger one for Dish Network.

Sounds good, how many receivers does she allow? $43.00 per receiver? Does she provide, dish and receivers?

That is true with Shaw, Dish and Direct. You should always call the provider and check.

My box is good to go.

We have Golf Channel #313 HD. Programming can vary depending on who you are paired with. We were paired with a Movie and HD group while others have sports channels as a priority. Also had two channels carrying the recent tournament (cant remember what its called) as you can tell I am not a golf fan. But yes we do get it.

TIA

If you want Dish network you are going to pay, I don't know all the prices but just for the dish it was over $7,000p and that was 3 years ago.
