GOING TO VISTA del Lago?

New freaking tear your f@@king car apart Topes installed between 3 PM and our return @ 7:30 PM. No sign just 2 big ass black ones and at least 6 double Soriano size. Be aware, near the side road to GDL thru Ixtlauacan.

They are to encourage people to slow down.

And they work.

And the quickly thrown together muffler shops get some buiness, too.

I love seeing Mexicans taking advantage of a business opportunity!

This is a fairly new highway....maybe 3 years old. The speed limit is 60 kph.
There were no signs on the road, we went airborne....fortunately driving a higher clearance vehicle.......

The police were writing many tickets over the past few weeks....so we go from mordida to body shop...LMAO

There still aren't signs warning of topes. These were not installed legally, turns out the local farmers had 3 horses hit by cars over the past 2 weeks, so they put them in.
They can't be seen at night so be aware....the topes will damage your car at the legal speed limit.

Maybe the farmers shouldn't let their horses wander around on the road.

It is open range Mexico style!

Nice Avatar Neil! The only reason I make issue on the topes is that they are dangerous.....especially if you don't know they are there. Not a big deal for me as I drive a truck normally.......

Chris, Most of these guys don't brand their livestock, as I understand it they are liable for damage caused if it can be proven that they own the horse?

I agree Chris, but putting in a dozen topes is over kill......one big one does the job....had to laugh last weekend, the brain power that put 18 topes and a stop light in front of Sorianos turned the red light to flashing, after traffic had backed up over a mile coming into Chapala. I'd love to see the job qualifications for traffic engineers in Mexico?

Ha! They just put in a WHOLE bunch morea those just West of the Pemex at La Canacinta, maybe 300 yards, before Los Palmas. I mean a WHOLE bunch. Pretty soon they will have all the highways around here toped from one end to the other, and it will once again take an hour to get to Joco and 20 minutes to get to del Lago.

Aparently, there are some new ones out west of Ajijic according to TOB. A traffic engineer in Mexico is anyone who has relatives in the fruit/veggie business or auto repair business who can take advantage of the new business opportunities created by topes.

When I tell Mexican friends of mine that I can drive from LA to NY without ever hitting a tope or paying a toll they find it hard to believe.

That's true Chris, but a funny, I was promoted / transferred from my New York office to Roanoake, Va., In 1986. Almost ran out of cash paying tolls from Long Island to DC.....Never heard of toll roads before that.....LMAO

Yeah, if you stay off the PA turnpike, the OH turnpike, the IN turnpike, the last two which are I-80.
The KS turnpike, which is I-35 is toll.
Ask FHBoy what it costs to go from NJ to LI via the GW and Throgsneck bridges and then the LIE. Tolls going east of the Mississippi are a trucker's nightmare.
