Re: What Are You Reading Now?
I'm about half way through the phone book. Huge cast, but the plot is pretty thin. And the type is so damn small.
Re: What Are You Reading Now?
Try the yellow pages Rolly. A wealth of information for free and the first place for me to check out what's available in most cities in Mexico. Required reading in any hotel room. :)

Charliej wrote:I am currently working my way through Asimov's Guide to the Bible, books one and two. About thirteen hundred pages, but very fascinating. I am a history freak, and the history lessons in this book are wonderful. After that, I have several science fiction novels lined up.
Asimov had a great Diary that he used for his whole life. He has two out of print large trade paperpack books of his diaries and a later catch up
book of his diaries just before he died. Very interesting stuff in his diaries. A couple of examples are in the 50's having lunch with L.Ron Hubbard
and others from the golden days of sci fi and Hubbard betting them he can create a religion to make money. Another one is when Israel was
created Issac wrote in his diary that we will regret this day as the arabs will never settle. I should point out Issac is a Russian born jew who
moved to NYC when a kid. Worth reading if you can find a copy of these three books. Another tidbit Asimov the great sci fi writing always drove
or took a train and never flew. He hated planes. He did like very large boats and talked his way over the pond many times LOL.
Z
P.S. We do have a lakeside sci/fi club that meets on Tuesdays 2pm in Ajijic if you are interested PM me. We talk about books/comics/ movies and
series. One week we talk about books next week we show classic sci fi movies or series. Good way to meet some smart folks.

Like John Grisham even more than Michael Connelly. "The New Jim Crow"-Michelle Alexander, densely documented, African Americans jailed, deprived of benefits for "crimes" for which whites are lightly prosecuted. "Five Past Midnight in Bhopal"-Dominique Lapierre. Personalized reconstruction of the chemical plant disaster.

Re: What Are You Reading Now?
I have doubled the amount of fiction books for sale in the LCS Magazine room
and now is a good time to look as many folks have left and donated books.
Ten pesos for hardback and trade paperback, seven pesos for small paperbacks.
You do not have to be a member to purchase just have money.
Right now I am overflowing with books and piling them on floor.
Sorry for the commercial.

Not a commercial, Zed. It is a Public Service Announcement.

Re: What Are You Reading Now?
Be careful if you want read a series in order from the beginning. I trusted Amazon...they put in the date of the REPRINT not the original date of publishing. So I just reread Lost Light which I had read in 2004. No biggy but annoying. Search on google for the real dates of a series publication.
For potential Michael Connelly fans here's the real scoop.

If you're into forensic science, you may like this series by Patricia Cornwell
http://home.earthlink.net/~acetoscano/cornwell.html
or this series by Kathy Reichs who is an actual forensic pathologist
http://www.squidoo.com/kathy-reichs-books-in-order
and, of course, Robin Cook who writes medical thrillers

Re: What Are You Reading Now?
I just read yesterday the 8th in the Outlander series; 'Written in my own Heart's Blood' by Diana Galbaldon is due out in December...can hardly wait!
I just finished Fortitude by Hugh Walpole....great read published in 1913.
I enjoyed 'Mexico' by James A. Mitchener and a series by George Szanto, 'The Underside of Stones' for one. Good reads about Mexico.
Another thumbs up for Poisonwood Bible and Ken Follet Fall of Giants and Winter of the World....waiting for the third instalment in that trilogy.

Re: What Are You Reading Now?
Paco Ignacio Taibo is a Spanish born Mexican author who's written some good nonfiction history as well as detective novels set in Mexico, some of which have been translated into English. He did a documentary about Pancho Villa for the History Channel, he's a very knowledgeable, interesting guy.
