VPN Routers
I was very close to buying one, but I am now waiting to see if they truly up the speed in our hood, because the main thing I want is streaming. I also want a Roku box to tie everything together - digital channels, audio, pictures - everything. These routers from flash routers https://www.flashrouters.com/vpn-service-information are very special, because the company installs their own chips into the routers. They also work closely with the VPN providers, I especially like the looks of Overplay, and their Smart DNS technology. As a matter of fact, you may be able to just use the Smart DNS but most people want the privacy protection of VPN. The company makes a good point that there so many wireless devices now, and many of them lack any protection, not even a firewall. Behind a VPN network, everything is safe.

Re: VPN Routers
I want to know more too.
Like many commercialized network technologies, a significant amount of sales and marketing hype surrounds VPN. In reality, VPNs provide just a few specific potential advantages over more traditional forms of wide-area networking. These advantages can be significant, but they do not come for free.
The potential problems with the VPN outnumber the advantages and are generally more difficult to understand. The disadvantages do not necessarily outweigh the advantages, however. From security and performance concerns, to coping with a wide range of sometimes incompatible vendor products, the decision of whether or not to use a VPN cannot be made without significant planning and preparation.

Re: VPN Routers
I think the confusion is that VPN was, and still is, mostly used by small corporations. At that level the gear is expensive, but security of corporate data is a critical concern. I think a lot of companies are using for their international phone conversations as well.
The consumer level products are much easier. I would not use VPN without a Roku box - there are something like 600 digital channels out there now, that's just video! Netflix U.S.A. is far superior to anything available in Mexico, and there is a lot more HD content (if you have the bandwidth)
