Dr Santiago Hernadez
Here is my two cents
I think he is great! (a GP)
After seeing him, went to a specialist to get a second opinion on medication and treatment...... and first time ever for me for a second opinion - the second doctor (who doesn't know Dr Hernandez) confirmed that the medication etc was the same that he would have prescribed.

Re: Dr Santiago Hernadez
Thank you for your acknowledgement. Let me just clarify that here a GP is usually a doctor who is practicing straight out of Medical School. I did post-graduate training in Family Medicine for 4 years. During such training rotations through a few core specialties are the foundation of the SPECIALTY of FAMILY MEDICINE. There is SO, SO much training in INTERNAL MEDICINE that I would consider it a large part of that knowledge base of family medicine.

Re: Dr Santiago Hernadez
I want to add my wholehearted endorsement for Dr. Santiago Hernandez. It is fair to say that he saved my husband's life last week. If it wasn't for his diagnostic skills and instance on seeking specialty care we never would have found the heart blockage that existed. Even the cardiologists seemed somewhat nonchalant at first but Dr. Hernandez was dogged in his pursuit of the proper diagnosis.
He also recommended an incredibly skilled cardiologist who performed a cardiac catherization and insertion of a stent through the arm rather than the groin. When we mentioned that they use the groin in the states his response was "in the more advanced countries we have moved past that".
Gotta love Mexico!

Can you tell us who the cardiologist was and did he come to the medical center in Chapala or did you have to go to Guadalajara to see him?

Re: Dr Santiago Hernadez
The specialists in my referral network and I work as a team. They are first evaluated by myself in an initial consultation(in non-emergency cases). After a thorough history, physical exam and appropriate are tests done then I do an interconsultation and the referral is one if needed. Having the appropriate work up and history saves everybody involved a lot of time, money and can often avoid catastrophic surprises during some procedures or treatments.
This is the way I've practiced medicine in the U.S. and I will continue to practice here. Thus far the results of this team approach have been successful.
Members of my network of doctors usually don't come to Chapala due to the fact that initial consultations are done with me and only referred if needed. Also, follow up care is done by me and the specialist(s) only if absolutely medically necessary and indicated (i.e. post-surgical follow-up).
PM me if you have a specific concern.
