The LCS video library does this for 50 pesos. Find a friend who is a member.

Re: editing and transferring....
i can't picture them having the equipment for editing. such as slow motion in a part of it and then repeating several times and then going back to regular speed. i believe it takes pro studio equipment to do that sort of thing-no?
but thanks for the thought solajijc.

Pedro, you are welcome but give the guy a try. I would bet if he can't do it he knows who might be able to help.

If you have a working VCR that I can use, I have the connectors (Composite video and RCA audio) and quite a good selection of editing software on my rig.

No, sorry. I dumped all my VCR stuff a couple of years ago. I am sure someone around here must have head cleaner or a VCR in good shape.

Re: editing and transferring....
The LCS just copies the tape over to DVD. You'll need some pretty powerful equipment if you want to actually edit in the way you're talking. First, it takes forever to be processed if you're cleaning it up, and that requires some high-end software and a rockin' CPU. Then you can start to edit, and there's a real skillset required these days. Then the rendering... . You'll need a pro or a real geek.

Short answer is no.Pedro wrote:i can't picture them having the equipment for editing. such as slow motion in a part of it and then repeating several times and then going back to regular speed. i believe it takes pro studio equipment to do that sort of thing-no?

There is linear (old school) and non linier (PC). Linear is easy to slow motion and or repeat. Nonlinear is not to difficult ether. XP pro came with Windows Movie Maker (old tech article) and it works well for the average home user. My advice would be to import your video onto your computer or have it converted to DVD (to stop degradation) and then you can slice your editing pie any way you want and or tri to repair any damage that may have occurred.
I'm no pro ...LOL I prefer the term techie but geek works. But honestly it's not that hard.HelperGuy wrote:You'll need a pro or a real geek.

Re: editing and transferring....
Sorry me amigo. I'm in the states… For now!!! Or I would for a few beers.
As I said, Your best thing to do right now is get it converted to digital, after that you can do or not do anything. But at least the quality will not go down.
Also just as an FYI, all you need in order to do crude linear editing is a player (that will play slow if you want slow motion) and recorder. You press play on your tape, record on your recorder. (If you want to rewind and slow-motion a part.) Press pause on your recorder, rewind on your player (take it to were you want to start), play in slow motion, and un-pause on the recorder. When the slow clip is done, press pause on the recorder, put the player were you want to play from, hit play on the player and un-pause on the record. When done hit stop on the recorder and then stop on the player. Repeat as necessary. When played back, the end result will look just like you think it should (regular speed, slow speed, regular speed). I used to do freefall videography and this is how we would edit (now it is done on a PC) all be it we did have a fading peace of equipment as well. All of this can also be done on a PC with a lot better quality. It just requires a tad bit of computer skills (not too much). If you are running windows XP pro (or later), do a search for “windows movie maker”. With a little reading I’m sure you could do it. It is really not too hard.

Re: editing and transferring....
Also just an FYI for any one else reading this that did not click on the link. The tech specs for the PC they used fopr movie maker were:
TECH SPECS/System Requirements
Platform: PC
Operating System: WinPC XP Pro or Home
Processor: 600MHz
RAM 128MB
Hard Disk 2GB (for video capture)
So by todays standards, it is not a resource intensive application.

Re: editing and transferring....
Actually Pedro - if LCS will digitize it to DVD for you I can pull the .mod files off of the DVD and edit them then burn the edited files onto a new DVD.
Just be aware that you cannot get an improvement beyond the VHS quality level - you are stuck with that.

Re: editing and transferring....
it was a tape a friend of mine sent from canada and it's kinda zig zaggy but i don't know if it's the tape or my vcr is filthy.
the part i want in slow mo and hopefully clear is the best goal i ever scored in my life and the 6 o'clock cfrn news team was at the rink and videoed it. my friend recorded it over some movie or tv show.

Re: editing and transferring....
If I had to guess, I'd say it was the tape. Chances are, it will never look any better than it does today. Playing the tape and letting is sit, both cause loss of quality (playing causes more). You might try and contact the CFRN news and see if it is in there archives. If you have the date and can find a friendly engineer, you might have some luck. Other than that, I would take AXIXIC up on his offer.
