Translator needed (French to English)

An African friend of mine, a Congolese refugee, has written a small book in French (40 pages; under 18,000 words) which he wants to have translated into English. He speaks English fairly well actually, but he doesn't have the confidence to translate it himself. We sat down together in February and got the first couple of pages translated and edited, but then I left the country. I have the book in Microsoft Word.

I'm OK at editing the translated copy, but I don't speak French. Google Translate garbles the whole thing into an unintelligible mess. Translation services are prohibitively expensive. Is there any generous soul here at Lakeside who is fluent in French and willing to work on this at much less than the usual cost for translation?
