El Azul de Frida
Between Ajijic and West Ajijic. Sign on the road. On the lateral, lakeside, lots of parking. Went yesterday for comida. Open till 6, closed Mon., Tues. Heard this was the real Mx. homestyle deal. It is. Meals include soup, main and dessert - $P50. Refrescas - $P7. Most expensive item - $P70 (chiles en nogada). Nice place. I will work through their menu. Definitely swarmable. They have lots of room, and hey, those prices.

Re: El Azul de Frida
Somewhat, I think John. It took me 40 min. to walk from La Estancia to Zapota and the careterra yesterday. I decided to reserve the uphill leg for later. Enough for one day. So, the downhill stroll to El azul should be half the time. I can guarantee I won't be walking back. So drivers, if you happen to see a flushed 60ish gringo heading up to those parts, a little compassion would be much appreciated. Jajaja

If it's like everything else I think you'll rave. The swell senorita there gave me a taste of the pork shank dinner (one of the items) before I left. It was her lunch and her two kids. It was huge. Pork shanks are like that. It had been wrapped in a banana leaf and they had worked their magic. This thing could feed three, in fact, it did. Their sides on the plate don't seem to change, you get good rice with some colour plus a piece of cauli, broc, squasch, and carrot. Not exciting, but hey, near organic, and eat Ur veg. There is one problem here. Bring Ur handywipes. I trust them. I do not trust their banos. U'll get it.

It's a very good place and incredibly economical for what they serve in their pretty little restaurant. And the waitress (Suki?---don't know how she spells it) has been a local treasure for a long time. It's her family's restaurant. Well worth visiting to see if you like it. It's a limited menu daily, but at their prices, you have little to lose.

Sounds like a restaurant that could use some TripAdvisor publicity? If someone would provide me with thier particulars (address, phone, etc), I would jump through the hoops to get them a listing (takes anywhere from 3 to 7 days) and once that is done, members can write reviews.

Frida´s Blue House is a short walk from Dawg´s home and a worthwhile short journey. A fine eatery with highly amusing personnel and very good food. Damn cheap for very good food and a good atmosphere. Right down the street from Ajijic´s fabulous seafood jewel Tabarka.

But: You are prepared to post a rave review of this restaurant on TripAdvisor without personally ever having sampled its food?

Please re-read my post, I said that I would jump through the application hoops to get them a listing. Once that bit of work is taken care of, others can post reviews. I do have some integrity and that means that I would not post a fake review! Thanks for asking!

Of course I'm "looking over [your] shoulder," just as someone else is overlooking mine. That's the penalty we pay for posting in online forums.
On the other hand, thanks for providing the list of your contributions to TripAdvisor.

Yes, you can throw the clown out of the circus but you can not keep him from crawling back in under the tent flap.

Re: El Azul de Frida
El Payasito está en la casa?
Why would someone like that invade a simple thread supporting a local, well-run, family restaurant? I realize, "Frida" was a bit left of center, but really...
If the suggestion is accurate, he/she/it has raised the bar in internet jackassery.

Re: El Azul de Frida
Thank you borderreiver! I will submit the info and when I receive notice of approval (usually takes 3 to 7 days), I will post for members to post reviews. It would also probably be beneficial, if members had a couple of photos to post along with their reviews.

Re: El Azul de Frida
Will wonders never cease? In record time, TripAdvisor has approved a listing for El Azul de Frida. Maybe a few members could now write reviews to get them going?
