Paying duty upon return to Mexico
Does anyone know how much the duty would be to bring a $300 USD new computer into Mexico? This is assuming I already own one packed in my luggage and just purchased another in the US. Thank for any help you can give me.

Come as a couple and you can have two. Wait for the red-light ... green-light to tell the truth. May depend on laptop or desktop
Either way ... probably cheaper than here and English

Now that they are X-raying luggage, the red light wait theory doesn't work. I tested it last flight in. I started to walk to the one that was red, they kept waving me to a different one so went to the one that showed red...hit the button got green, they took to the next station to hit button....which turned red.....LMAO...I had 6 dozen golf balls in the bag, and they couldn't figure out what they were from the scan....no duty charged

Why not just take off the tags and put the instruction booklet in your purse along with a few cables? Might that work. Oh yeah, it only looks new, because it's one year old.

You can bring one in no problem as exempt and the other may fall under $300 exemption if arriving by air. They haven't been as strict lately.

Re: Paying duty upon return to Mexico
When we flew into Mexico in November, my wife put the two carry-ons through the x-ray machine, and I loaded the two suitcases. The operator asked my wife, "Are there two laptops?" She pointed to me and said, "One each.", No problem. There may have been a problem if only one person brought in two.

Re: Paying duty upon return to Mexico
I just came through Mexican customs last week with a home theatre projector and a couple of external hard drives. I didn't declare them on the Mexican customs form as I undertand that these items are considered to be personal exemptions (as stated on the back of the Mexican customs form). After my luggage went through the x-ray the agent asked me if I was bringing back any gifts. I should no I just have my personal projector and hard drives. After staring at me for about 5 seconds he said "push the red/green button". I did and it was green. He stared for another 5 seconds then told me to go.

This is an interesting subject to me. So my wife and I have 2 laptops, 1 notebook, 3 PC computers, 1 tablet and 2 smart phones. We have two flat “TV's” and a projector that are used as monitors. Our PC's are our TV. So it looks like we could have some issues when we move down...? Do smart phones count as computers? Were does the tablet fall?
