Computer Expert - Firefox 17.1 w/ Adobe Flash 11.5.502
All was well when I was running an earlier version of Firefox and an earlier version of Adobe Flash. I kept getting messages that I needed to upgrade Adobe and I ignored them until accidently clicking on the update button. Then I kept getting Adobe crash messages and wrongly assumed that I needed to update Firefox to have it work. I still received crash messages and have had to completely uninstall Adobe. I have lost the ability to view videos and access certain videos contained in news reports.
Any suggestions?

I switched to Google Chrome and it is working perfectly with both Adobe and Java. I can't speak to Firefox but it works a lot better than IE on my old laptop computer.

Thanks for the suggestion on Chrome but I tried using that with the new Adobe Flash with the same results.

Hmm, I wonder if this is some sort of issue or conflict in your own computer.
This antique uses Vista. But Chrome is running perfectly on my Windows 7 machine too.

Uninstall Firefox; you won't lose your bookmarks. Reinstall latest version, then reinstall Flash latest version. This is a known and widely-reported problem.

Thank you for the suggestion. Just did as suggested and immediately started receiving Adobe crash indicators again. I suspect I have some other conflict and it is time to take the laptop in for a tune up?

I can certainly troubleshoot it for you. I did one a couple of weeks ago with the same problem, and that actually took two trips, but I'll be damned if I can remember how we finally got it working. May have had something to do with the "video acceleration" setting for the computer's display... .

Hopefully it won't take two trips, because it's a long drive to Albuquerque.

You might try this fix at Mozilla's site: It talks about downgrading to an earlier version of Flash ( 10.3 ) to resolve the issue.

Yes, do give it a try, and thank you CE. This works sometimes, others not. Also, earlier versions of Firefox than 17 are less affected. Try 14: http://www.oldversion.com/windows/mozilla-firefox-14-0-1 Be sure you click on the correct Download Now green button, and not the Download Manager.

Neil can just bring it in. Same distance in both directions.
This woman in ABQ keeps calling my Vonage phone which comes up in ABQ wanting to do my carpets for a real deal. Maybe Neil can come down with the cleaning crew.......

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I have tried them all without success. Time for a professional tune-up from my friends at the computer store.

Neil, just do a system restore to the date before you did all these upgrades. You will find it under Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

CB:
That was my very first thought and I tried three different dates receiving messages back that it couldn't restore to the dates chosen. This whole thing was caused by me thinking that I needed to do some housecleaning to gain more memory. A good clue that I did something wrong since Internet Explorer went away? I never use it but when I tried to access it to make some of the recommended changes, it wouldn't open. I then installed Chrome and cannot even download Adobe Flash from there successfully.

Re: Computer Expert - Firefox 17.1 w/ Adobe Flash 11.5.502
Just as a follow-up, I am back up and running using Firefox 14 and Adobe Flash 10.3. Since I thrashed around in the bowels of my computer uninstalling a bunch of uneccessary programs and just kept trying reinstalls until everything worked, I have no idea exactly what was causing the problems. One prime suspect was Skype since I was getting an "exception error" each time I booted up and it went away after I uninstalled Skype?
Thanks for everyone's help!

As an aside, the last two days I am constantly getting messages in Firefox that Flash has crashed...
