U.S. dollar appears to be nosediving. Down .53% this morning. Better get to the ATM now.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Peso is now 12.98.

I do know that John. However when we all came here the U.S. didn't have TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT. Let's see if the downward trend continues. That will be fun, won't it?

How do you think the trillions of $$$ in debt will affect the exchange rate?

It won't. Deficit affects the dollar. Actually the $USD has done pretty well considering. In May of last year it was $1.47US to buy a Euro, now it's $1.29. You'll note that as the Dow moves up the Peso moves with it.

That's very true, when my stock portfolio takes a hit the better exchange rate almost makes up for it.David wrote: You'll note that as the Dow moves up the Peso moves with it.

Jesus, the guy just wanted to peddle a few US dollars. He didn't ask for financial brain surgery.

Quite simple. When US stock prices move up, people (speculator, traders, investors) go shopping...across borders. Mexican bolsa moves up, peso stenghtens on the demand for peso based equities by dollar based buyers. For the most part, in todays financial climate, it's almost as sure as, when the temp. drops to 32 degrees F., water freezes.
Mexico hasn't any apparent financial problems and the drug debacle has been factored into the market.

The surgery was free Uncle Jack. No complaints, no expectation of following any advice. It's GRATIS and all part of our very fine service on this web board.
Thank you David. See U.J. fabulous service around here.

Well...okay...but I'm still a little dubious about free financial brain surgery advice.

...and as a sidebar, I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving with family and/or friends and did not participate in any mass hysteria buying frenzy on the following day.

Well first you do have to have the brain for it. Lots of people get turned off. They pay no attention whatsoever. I don't sell anything, I am not, never have been and never wiil be a financial advisor, so they're on their own. Take it or leave it.
No Thanksgiving dinner for us. We were babysitting our new dogs while everyone else went to Bobby's. However did buy a lot of doggy treats, brushes and toys yesterday.

A nice simple answer that's only close to the truth; this answer works over the longer term but not for the daily or weekly variations in exchange rates.
