Talavera dishes
Looking for talavera plates, cups saucers etc.
I am told that Tonala is the place to go.
Any additional help (store names, addresses etc) would be appreciated.

Re: Talavera dishes
You will often find nicer and better quality ones in Tlaquepaque. However, if you can find what you like in Tonala, the prices should be lower. The Talavera you find in Tonala will most often come from Dolores Hidalgo, which the Mexican Govt. doesn't recognize as true Talavera. Officially designated Talavera is only produced in Puebla. If you are concerned about lead, please be very careful that the product is properly designated as being lead free. One store with some nice product in Tonala is located on the main plaza - if you are standing on the plaza facing the church, it would be to the right of the church:

Re: Talavera dishes
Here is one place I like in Tonala - Erandi. They are expensive but very good quality and prices are negotiable:
Artesanías Erandi Review
This is the showroom of one of Tonalá's biggest ceramics exporters. If you want to see how the pieces are made, the staff will gladly direct you to one of two nearby workshops.

About 10 years ago we bought a beautiful set of dinnerware, approx 200 pieces in Tonala for 2,400 pesos. I cannot remember the name of the store.

Re: Talavera dishes
Visit Casa Mexico in Chapala. Across the street from the City Hall. Raquel has a large selection of Talavera tableware, many styles and patterns. All lead-free and dishwasher safe. She maintains a substantial inventory, so when you want to add a new piece or need a replacement she will either have it or order it for you.

Re: Talavera dishes
Probably the best known dinnerware produced in Tonala is Ken Edwards Stoneware and one can find this product in numerous stores in both Tonala and Tlaquepaque:

Ken Edwards pieces are outstanding. I bought a piece at a charity auction a couple of years ago.
