7.6 Magnitude Quake Strikes Off Of Costa Rica
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Costa Rica at 8:42 a.m. on Sept. 5, according to the U.S. Geological Service.
The earthquake, located about 90 miles west of Costa Rica's capital San Jose, was originally measured as a 7.9, but downgraded after a review by seismologists.
A Tsunami watch and warning is in effect for parts of the Pacific located closer to the earthquake, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. There's a chance that Hawaii could reach warning status.
