The question:

If you, an expat, want to open a business such as a restaurant with a beer and wine license, are you required to have a Mexican "partner" these days?
(no, no, not me........I don't want to open a restaurant. It's about someone else I know.)

Second question: If you want to open said restaurant in your rented home, and your lease says "only for residential use", what can your landlord do about it? The landlord in this case refuses to grant official permission, and is also an expat.

Are the Local "Bookmakers" laying odds yet?

Put a "spencer" on the landlord for me.

Entirely wrong, Cane.

Different state, different cast of characters.

You'd lose the bet. I'm asking Spencer the question in his capacity of legal adviser on this board. And that's all. 8)

As to the first part, I'm not sure as there are many variables. Much would also depend on whether you were a legal entity (company / corporation) or sole proprietor.

It is easier for work permission if you have a company but then a company has a whole host of other requirements.

As far as the landlord thing goes, if the lease prohibits something then the landlord can take action against you for breaking the lease, a violation is a violation.

Thanks. It's a private property.
