sahuayo, michoacan

went to the fiestas patrolanes this past weekend in sahuayo (southeastern end of lake chapala) for their fiesta. it was amazing! best fiesta i've seen since i moved here (okay, okay, only two years ago...but a friend who has been here for 10 years agreed). it's kind of like mardi gras (lived in new orleans for 10 years). lots of folks returning from the US to visit their families, but, for all practical purposes, no gringos. best-kept secret in mexico, i'm thinking.

How long did it take you to get there and approximately how far is it from Ajijic?

abirria, sahuayo is about two hours from my house on the south shore. maybe about three hours from ajijic. (it's not really far, mileage-wise, but there are lots of topes and curving road and tractors or trucks on the highway.) the patronales festival parade is (apparently) on july 25 each year.
