Banking w/ Santander Bank Empty Banking w/ Santander Bank

Post by lisatx Mon Aug 20, 2012 8:24 pm

We will be moving lakeside on 9/18. I have set up a BofA bank account. BofA has some sort of relationship w/ Santander. My question is will I be able to get money from Santander w/ just my passport and FMT. Just not sure how much cash to bring or exchange. We have debit cards for two institutions here, Bof A and Navy Federal credit
union. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Virtually all major debit cards work here....B of A no problem. Card cloning can be a problem.....consider opening an account @ Intercam.....Once approved you can write checks up to $4000.00 USD and receive pesos immediately....exchange rate is not the highest but better than most banks @ lakeside. Welcome to Lakeside, and have a safe trip Beer

I'm not sure, you might need a utility bill , proof of residence. The beauty of Intercam or similar, is they will also issue a check in pesos so you can deposit money into a Mexican account thus avoiding tax for cash deposit, and you eliminate the hold period on checks you might write on your personal US account for deposit to the same financial institution. BTW....don't do the stupid......I came down here with 2 debit cards....got hit with identity theft.....all accounts closed.....pretty helpless feeling....keep options open. Google intercam and inquire....Having an account at Intercam costs nothing....having a debit account at bancomer while maintaining a 999 pesos ($100.00) balance is also free.....good luck.....Jim

Just use your NOB bank card at any ATM machine. We don't have a Mexican bank account at all.

I agree, just keep it simple until you get settled. Your BofA debit card at Santander or Scotia ATMs will provide cash for you without any charges.

Just be aware BOA sold there Santander Shares so the deal
could change. It also could not. BOA also allows you to take
out 6000P regardless of the message that says 3000 max.
Scociabank ATM by Dominos is a swipe machine. Don't know
the Santander machine type. Scociabank ATM also has a guard
around the area 24/7. Also good parking.
