Thick hemp or cotton rope. Where?
Thinking about hanging myself after the cole slaw thread. Seriously, looking for it to make tug-of-war toys for my dogs. The prices at the shelter are astronomical and in two or three days it is torn to shreds. No plastic or nylon. Thanks, chico.

Try Jara Hardware next to Telmex or Galvez Hardware next to Comex Paint.

Not sure where you'll find what you are looking for...
But, have you thought about how braided rugs are made from old cotton sheets or clothing? It would be recycling and safer and cleaner for the dog's mouths. Make one braid long enough to safely knot at both ends.

Thanks, you guys. Not sure what I found is hemp, but it is a natural fiber and not plastic or nylon, which I was afraid to get. Three meters, separated into one meter lengths for five pesos. For that price, I can tie my own knots. chico

Sigh...and you found it where please? I'm looking at three rope toys that are sadly in need of replacement.

Now here is a very obvious suggestion that may not have occurred to some in this discussion. Say one wants a 3' length of rope to make into say three toys. Purchase the whole 3' and do not have it cut. Soak this natural fiber rope in water for at least 12 hours and then start tying your knots and benefiting from the longer length to pull the knots tight. Then set the wet rope in the sun to slowly dry the rope and shrink up the knots further. When fully dry, cut the rope into one foot sections between the knots. Most dogs I have owned have been quite good at working out the knots and this will make it more difficult.

I have bought very hemp-y looking rope at the Truper hardware store near Superlake. Definitely a dog toy candidate.

The two pieces that I have left have just gone into a bucket of water, due to your helpful post. Thanks. chico

Merry, I think that is where I bought it, also. Know that it was in SAT and it is not a large ferreteria but was a block or three east of Superlake. Thanks for you help. chico

Yes, that's it. On the corner and very orange, says TRUPER in big letters on it.

Tying knots in the shorter lengths can be problematic since one doesn't have much to grab a hold of to pull the knots tight. That is why I recommend tying knots and letting them shrink tight before the rope is cut.
