GPS Tagging of Photos?
Have been doing some research for our upcoming trip and have found that one can use the GPS clock coordinated with the clock on a camera to "tag" every photo one takes. From what I know so far, you have to have your tracking feature turned on and carry your GPS when out of your vehicle. There are a number of software programs(some free) which will use the clock functions to attach tags. If this works according to what I have read, one can then click on these tags to pull up a Google Map of the exact location. Since we have a Garmin, that is what I have been studying but if it works, it sounds like a really trick approach.
Anyone else heard of doing this?

My camera adds a GPS tag to every picture I take as long as I am in the open so the satellite signal can reach the camera.

It figures that you have the latest toy! I could purchase a Nikon tagging device which matches up with my camera but don't feel like paying the Nikon price. Is it true that once your photos are tagged that you can click on them to get the location on a map?

Re: GPS Tagging of Photos?
No you can't just click on a foto and get a map .... but smart fones like my IPhone do embed the data. You also have the issue of fone quality fotos.
There is a free site you can upload your fotos to and they will produce a map but I don't have it at hand. I'm sure there is SW out there that could produce a map for a webpage but then you need a site, etc

Re: GPS Tagging of Photos?
Thank you for the info Sparks! Believe it or not, I have never even tried to take a photo with my cell phone. My Nikon was purchased before they started incorporating the GPS feature. I was looking at a Nikon S9300 at Costco the other day but according to the reviews, the GPS feature is great but the photos mediocre. Already have the Garmin and was hoping that I could tie the two together rather than purchasing one of the "tagger units" on the market since some of them get really bad reviews.
