Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
Looks like we're getting part of Hurricane Carlotta off the Pacific coast centered in Acapulco. A Category 2 with Sustained winds of 105 mph.
Great for the Lake and the farmers crops. Might be a good test for your roof too!

We have been following Carlotta as we live in Chiapas as well as Jalisco and are pleased the hurricane seems to have been less dangerous than anticpated earlier. Thanks for the report to all of you as we have some difficulty getting accurate reports of weather phenomena in Mexico here in France and were concerned about possible heavy rains and some potential wind gust damage. We were slightly concerned about Carlotta but now feel it will neither cause us problems northwest or southeast in Mexico.
Dawg was raised in the South Alabama hurricane belt so knows these storms are capricious to say the least. In fact, our honeymooen cottage at the mouth of the Fowl River on the western shore of Mobile Bay where we lived before moving to San Francisco in 1971 has disappeared from the face of the earth after Hurricane Frederick in 1979. Dawg means gone absolutely from the face of the earth. OK, it was no mansion but had a seriously nice view of the bayous and the bay and the biggest river rats upon which you ever laid eyes or, once they were dead, nose.
Some Canadian members had a little fun with Carlotta but that is because they are from BC and Dawg understands that as the reader will note from my incessant "frozen tundra" jokes. Táint funny, McGehee if you freeze your pecker after zipping down your pamts to answer nature´s call or watch your home floating out into the Gulf of Mexico on its way to Progreso, Yucatan.

It's nice to see we received 2 inches of rain last night. We are well on our way to meeting the average for June.

Re: Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
From this INFORMADOR article, Lake Chapala is going to need a great deal more rain than average:
"Lake Chapala through the worst drought in five years"
"The dimension of the glass lake stood at 94.06, something not seen since 2007, before the wet season
Chapala, Jalisco (12/JUN/2012.) - The Sun and the temperature cubic meters consumed in Lake Chapala. Only the weekend and lost two inches set a scene not seen in the last five years.
Five years ago, at the end of the dry season in June 2007, the level of the lake stood at 93.9, equivalent to a volume of three thousand six hundred million cubic meters (Mm3). Since then, the lake had recoveries that kept the accumulation of water above 94.53, until last weekend when it reported the elevation 94.06.
The lack of rain is affecting the conditions facing the lake, which is the largest natural lake vessel of the country and today, thanks to a negligible uptake of rainwater is at 47.63% of total capacity.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) revealed that the body of water lost two inches over the weekend, so it is currently on the dimension 94.06, which represents a storage of three thousand 761 million cubic meters (Mm3)...........

Re: Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
We are nearly up to the average rainfall for this year and we still have 14 days to go, so we will exceed the average. CNA is always pissing and moaning about the Lake level. How about they let some water in from the Lerma River? Just politics. And how about they take responsibility for doing their job in repairing or replacing Arroyos, which they don't do.
When I moved here in 2001, the lake bed was dry from shore out 300 yards and everyone thought the Lake would dry up. Another sky is falling!!! OMG, the end of the world.

John: Please start drinking as some of your posts lately make no sense at all! I realize that you probably meant average for the month instead of year but even that statement is questionable. This isn't about the sky is falling but we all know that in order to have a bumper crop of mosquitoes, there needs to be plenty of rain and a full lake.

Time for you to add up the rainfall for this year on chapalaweathernet. I did this AM. We are within 1 inch of average for YTD and 14 days to go in June.
A full lake has NOTHING to do with mosquitos.

IMO, CG no matter what John states you always have something nasty to say. You are always the one to throw the first barb. Of course he’ll respond and then you’ll try to make it look like he’s the instigator. You have some serious issues have you ever considered trying to deal with them.

Using the above chart, please explain your math or point because I just am not seeing it!

Re: Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
Through June 30, we get an average total of 8.7 inches of rain
YTD to June 15, we have had 7.63 inches of rain
So we are 1.07 inches short until June 30 and we will easily surpass that in just one storm.
The rainfall in other years has nothing to do with this year. It is only a recording to compare with average rainfalls.
Parker - Thank you. I am finished responding to this post.

Re: Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
What form of "new math"are you using? The rainfall average for the month of June only is 8.6" for the five completed years. Those numbers in the June column are not YTD numbers!

You can't even read a chart. The rainfall average for June is 6.6 inches. It always has been. I added up the average through June and the total YTD up until now. You do the math.

Re: Rain and Wind from Hurricane Carlotta
OK - I see where you are getting your numbers from. Working off the actual average rainfall for the period 2008 through 2011, the YTD would be 12.93".
Since Steve is a personal friend, we have had a number of discussions about the "averages" he started with. While he did attempt to locate some accurate previous year numbers for the Lake area, he will be the first to tell you that he has zero faith in the accuracy of those monthly numbers. The yearly average has a slightly stronger basis in fact!
Mosquito comment = sarcasm climbing to a cruising altitude of 30,000'.
