Wife called Juan Pablo, regarding pool issue, pump lost prime. He sent help same day, determined pump problem and said replacement would be 5400 pesos or they might be able to repair. Opted for repair....they repaired for 1300 pesos, put new sand in filter, changed out PVC to pump and filter, all for 2300 pesos....ya gotta love honest, fast service here. All in 24 hours.

Next time, my suggestion, try Techno Aqua. Your call.

How old is your pump? Some need to be replaced after 5 - 6 years, others will last up to 10 years, but not many do that. Mine did.

If your electric bill is high and you need to replace a pump look into the Pentair Variable Speed pump. It can save up to $ 900. US in electric. I just installed one.

Watch out for the Pentair. Read up on it on the net. If CFE fries the electronics, you have to replace the entire pump. You have to go through a lot of electricity to pay for that.

I'm rebuilding my pump and installing a more efficient, two speed setup using mechanical timers to vary both run time and pump speed. Saves a great deal of electricity without the risk of CFE cooking your controller.

You did get a good deal. Techno Aqua is way too costly and they have a lot of technician turnover.

David, again you don't know what you're talking about. Techno Aqua is often less than what competitors are. You need to compare what others charge, ie: Juan Pablo, Albercas del Lago, Aqua del Mundo, Crystal Water and Techno Aqua. Two years ago, I got the best price on my new sand filter from Techno Aqua when Crystal Water wanted to sell me a used one for more money. I used Juan Pablo once on my neighbors house to replace tile on top of the pool. He was way too expensive.

My new pump was less money than ANY of the others. Aqua del Mundo was $ 400 US higher.

Five or 6 years ago I bought the top of the line Jacuzzi pump from one of the vendors above for $ 6,500 pesos. The motor burnt out after 11 months. He said that it wasn't guaranteed and offered to put on a new motor for $ 1,500 pesos if I paid $ 750 pesos. I had no choice. I would love to tell you who this CROOK is, but I cannot. I immediately took him off my list.

Turnover on help. NOT!!! He has had Rodrigo for years. He does his pump and sand filter installation along with other products. A nice young man who speaks English.

John, Jacuzzi and any of the other pool pump manufacturers do not make motors. Most standard and two speed pool pump motors are made by just a couple of companies. New pumps are supposed to be warrantied for at least a year, but that is NOB.

It's no big deal to change a pool pump motor. The housing will last a lot longer than the motor. You can also change to more efficient motors and even go to two speed as long as the top speed is equal to the motor rating the pump needs.

MC - I know it's no big deal to change or replace a motor, but down here they charge twice the price vs. NOB. Here, many vendor's say it's guaranteed for a year, then won't stand in back of it.

How long do you think a good quality pump should last? What brand pump are you using?

I had a hayward 2hp pump back in Vancouver. I paid about $300 for it. I ran it 24/7/364. I put it in 5 years ago and it was still running strong when I sold my house last summer. If you are going through pumps faster than that I would suggest you have voltage problems.

Unlike others in my Community, my non brand name 2 HP pump lasted for 10 years. I did have bearings, a capacitor and impeller replaced in in those 10 years. I ran my pump 3 - 4 hours per day. I think I was lucky.

John, the pool has two Hayward Super Pumps, 1.5HP. I had to replace one of the motors about 3 years ago (that made it 10 years old, and I'm replacing the second when I get back from the U.S. with a new motor. Both lasted more than 10 years.

I agree with CB's comment that you may have voltage issues shortening the life of your pump motors. They will do better, also, if wired for 230/240 rather than 120v.

MC - Nothing is shortening the life of my pump motor. I just have one for my pool and jacuzzi.

Other people have had shortened pump lives, but that's probably due to pump quality (builders quality) certainly not like the quality of Hayward, Jacuuzi or Pentair.

Some have had pump motors rewound here, but I don't really know if it's a good idea. I don't think it is.

John, you need to STOP telling me that the experinces I've had are not true. Your obnoxious denial of other's experiences are just plain RUDE. I used Techo Aqua for years. Froylan, their lead installer who installed my solar pool heating system, LEFT Techo Aqua and opened his own store. That's turnover. ALL of his prices are less than Tecno Aqua. That's what I'm talking about. Now how about this: YOU CLEARLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT and since you don't please keep your comments to yourself concerning my posts.

John, if you only have one pump, you should be using a higher service factor motor. Check the voltage also and feel how hot the motor AND the wiring are getting. Something isn't right if you are going through pump motors even though only running them about 4 hours per day.

MC - Please go back and reread my posts. I said others in the community go thru motors every 5 to 6 years. I said my cheapo builder non brand name pump lasted 10 years. You would be lucky to get 10 years from any Hayward, Jacuzzi or Pentair pump with voltage fluctuations here.

When my new Pentair was installed the voltage was reading 230 V. Unlike many of you who live in the Village or even other Fraccs or Communities, we have two humungous transformers outside our gate. One transformer services 9 houses, the other services 10 houses.

One thing that has helped with my pumps is that I use what would normally be considered slightly undersized breakers. I'd rather reset a few trips than let CFE wreck my pumps.

Sorry John, I did misread. As for the Pentair, just be prepared because it has sensitive electronics that cannot be repaired at least by Pentair although wouldn't surprise me if someone here can fix them. If they blow, you gotta replace the entire pump.

The transformers are only as good as the power they are getting. I wouldn't stake my life on what we all get from CFE.

MC - What if I put in a voltage regulator, not a whole house one, just for the pump? The pump is 3 HP and a max RPM of 3250 at full speed. It draws 16 amps (I would assume that's at full RPM, no?). I am running it at 1,500 RPM for 5 hours. I'm going to cut it back to 4 hours. I might even change RPM down to 1200 or 1300. Looking to save more $$$$. At 1,500 RPM it is drawing only 212 Watts.

You could do that but if you aren't having a voltage problem you're probably OK. You should definitely have a surge protector for it. The problem with this pump is not that it isn't highly efficient, the problem is that the manufacturer won't supply the electronics only as a replacement part, hence if anything happens to it, you are out the cost of an entire pump instead of just an electronics board. Make sure also that the pump is in a clean and dry location out of the sun.
