Speaking of Big Cats
You think the kid might look like a baby zebra to the lion?

I saw that earlier, I don't think the parents are very bright and not amusing to me. Thumbs down

These two videos were taken at the Portland, OR Zoo and you can bet that the glass was virtually bulletproof! They were not taunting the lion cub. It got up and wandered over to the window from a distance.

There was no danger to the child. He was perfectly safe.

The window is not glass, probably acrylic like the big aquariums but I see your point but are we training the Lion or the child?

I don't think the child realized what was going on.

I am bored today, let me dress my grankid up as a porkchop and go to the pound. The dogs are behind a fence. I'll let you know how that works for me....

Let me see a lion in a zoo in a building designed to expose people to Lions is wrong but thanks for explaining yourself to me. I wouldn't
have a problem with a fence at the dog pound either. But my parents never stopped me from doing anything unless I was bothering
others or doing something too dangerous that I would hurt myself in a major way. I use to walk sorta tame (you never fully tame them)
Buffalo around. I use to let cheetahs take naps on my lap but they are much safer than lions to be fair. Still got scars from the monkeys.
Nasty creatures actually. Yea come to think of it my parents and there children probably are not normal.

Re: Speaking of Big Cats
I have been thinking that the objecting poster has a "thing" about zoos in general and animals in captivity? Such feelings may have been quite valid many years ago when animals were stuck in zoos, aquariums and circuses for the amusement of humans. While some circuses are still guilty of such, zoos and aquariums around the world have revised their practices and motivations for existing. Education, conservation and breeding programs are in place to slow down the decline of populations of all species, especially those which have been declared "endangered". Modern exhibits are much more natural for the individual species and the animals receive phenomenal medical and nutritional care.
For anyone who doubts the above statements, please refer to the link for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums: http://www.aza.org/
Accreditation is of key importance for the survival of a zoo or aquarium in North America and each member institution must got through the entire process every five years.

Re: Speaking of Big Cats
I dunno, CG. Maybe it's just the concept of those big sharp teeth separated by a partition from that cute little guy. A little creepy for some. My instinct was to snatch up the baby when I saw the photos.
I know that modern zoos are a far cry for yesteryear.

It's a little creepy, I think. I know the kid is not in danger... and the lion's frustration is sorta funny... but, like gringal, my instinct is to snatch the kid out of the way.... Lizzy

Here is a story of some tame cheetahs that decided to stop being tame. I
have lots and lots of time with cheetahs. This is a very strange thing to
happen but it shows you the potential danger involved. Smart folks to
play dead.
