Now I have to admit this one takes me by total surprise!

Senior citizens owe billions in student loans

"When you think of student loans, you think of students and recent graduates -- younger people in their 20s and 30s working to pay off the thousands of dollars in debt from undergraduate and graduate schools.

It's a good bet you don't think of people in their 60s, 70s and even 80s struggling to [pay off student debt. But new research shows that Americans 60 and older owe $36 billion in educational debt and account for 5 percent of delinquent student loans.

In some cases, the debt was incurred when adults went back to school later in life. In other cases the debt resulted from co-signed loans taken out by children."

Student loans are going to be the next fiscal boondoggle to collapse. People with $100K college debts who can't get jobs much beyond clerking are not going to have the income to repay these loans.

Because the government artificially inflated the ability of education "consumers" to purchase tuition, it went up far faster than inflation. Just another demonstration of the law of unintended consequences.

Nothing like 50/100K$USD debt and for that you get a degree in Psychology.
Nothing wrong with a bachelers degree in Psychology my father had one but
as he said it qualifies you to drive a taxi. Too much debt with too many
worthless degrees. We use to hire bachelor degree folks to work in the
clean room. It was a way to filter out some of the applications into workable
numbers. I also admit we threw away all the GED resumes. All that education
for 10/20$USD/hour and we had huge numbers of applications for hard jobs
with 12 hour days wearing sweaty bunny suits standing on your feet. My
advice for folks is go get a masters degree if you want to be considered for
a good job.
