Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
I was practically addicted to Kraft's Miracle Whip when growing up. Maybe we haven't been looking in the right places, but Maria & I haven't been able to find it Lakeside. I simply don't like mayonnaise because it just isn't the same (for sandwiches, salads and such).
However, Maria found in the local tienda a comparable product under the McCormick brand name: Aderezo de Mayonesa para ensaladas. I can't tell the difference between it and Miracle Whip. And it costs only $19.50 MXN for a 420-gram jar!
This is just a "heads-up" for anyone interested.

Let's agree to disagree, when I was growing up comparing Miracle Whip to Best Foods mayo would be like comparing Heinz ketchup to any other ketchup,no contest!

The mayo McCormick "Con Límon" in Mexico is great> The hint of Lemon (Lime) gives it a great taste.
Mexicans know how lime adds a great kick to many foods and beverages!

Yeah but Heinz ketchup in Mexico is nothin' like NOB. If you wanna try really good ketchup here try the Delmonte brand.

Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
I don't know why they call it Miracle Whip. It's certainly not a miracle, it's more like a disaster. Perhaps they should have called it "Imitation Mayonaisse". Our family always used Hellman's Mayo and still does and it's still the best IMO. Except in Mexico it has lemon in it, but has little difference in taste. If you're on a diet or have high cholesterol Hellman's Light is as good as regular Hellman's.
We always used Heinz Ketchup too, still the best IMO. If you can't find Heinz here, although they have it, try Clemente Jacques, a good product.

Personaly I think the Heinz in Mexico tastes the same as NOB,maybe your taste buds are more attuned than mine.I doubt that a fine company like Heinz would allow their product formula to be tampered with in anyway, quality control at Heinz has always been state of the art.I recently watched a biography of Henry Heinz, what an amazing guy he was!ferret wrote:Yeah but Heinz ketchup in Mexico is nothin' like NOB. Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
This discussion is so-o-o-o FUNNY!!!!
I just thought that there could be some soul out there (like me) who might have been looking for Miracle Whip and couldn't find it, so I posted the information contained in the original post.
Then came the attacks upon that product and comparisons to Best Foods mayo; then Heinz ketchup etal. Of course, everyone has his/her own preference!
I wasn't suggesting that everybody should run out and buy McCormick's -- only that if anyone likes Miracle Whip and can't find it, it's definitely a comparable product.
LMAO!!!!

Hounddawg should be on soon with a thousand words about mayo. It's one of his hot buttons.

Of course, the French make the greatest mayonnaise on the planet including the sublime garlic mayonnaise known as aioli - a concoction worthy of consumption by the Gods up there in the ether.
dawg speaks authoritatively:
* There is only one decent commercially prepared mayonnaise available in Mexico and that is Best Foods. Hellmans in Mexico has been desecrated by a formula compromising its original recipe and turning into a maddenly incomprehensible store bought "salad dressing" for the common pig rut reeking of lime juice and sugar. A disgusting product unworthy of the Hellmans sold in the United States. Best Foods, on the other hand, retains the formula dictated by the giant conglomerate UNILEVER which produces both products and Dawg can imagine the intercorporate imbroglio going on over there at UNILEVER. How sustainably entertaining.
* Great mayonnaise produced in the United States is an oxymoron and Mexican mayonnaise is an inconceivable concept.
While my friend Lehrer disappoints me in extolling the virtues of Miracle Whip, Dawg must admit that that is a fine concoction for freeing up broccoli stumps congesting the garbage disposal. Just add two tablespoons of Miracle Whip to the garbage disposal whirl and the leftovers will slide down there to join the other waste and excrement on the way to Lake Chapala.

May I repeat myself? To wit: "I just thought that there could be some soul out there (like me) who might have been looking for Miracle Whip and couldn't find it, so I posted the information contained in the original post."
Jeez, I ain't twistin' nobody's arm here; if you like Miracle Whip & can't find it, McCormack's is an alternative. If you don't like it and prefer Hellman's ketchup or French's mayonnaise or Heinz mustard or whatever -- I ain't offended if you buy it.
Just remember: You are what you eat!

Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
BTW, hound dog --
I didn't extoll any virtues; just suggested that there is an alternative around here for those that want it.
Hell, I was raised on Miracle Whip for salads and sandwiches; and that's what I like. If Mamma had spread excrement on my toast and called it peanut butter, I might have acquired a taste for that, too!
Each to his own.

I once had a girlfriend who thought Miracle Whip was a bedtime toy. She
didn't last long and I can't tell the other stories. Ah to be 30 again. :-)

I've heard the Greeks prefer Miracle Whip to olive oil.

Dawg hereby resolves to lay off the ham, goat cheese and collard greens to say nothing of the hermaphroditic raw oysters still alive and screaming in their shells even though being a/an hermaphrodite sounds like fun to me. Sex every day with your favorite partner if you are double-jointed. Never any concern as to whether your partner is faking it.

Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
I tend to like Best mayonnaise to Miracle Whip which, it's Best mayonnaise out west and Hellmans out east. I like the Best mayo especially on banana sandwiches of which I had one yesterday. Hellmans mayonnaise is too sweet for my taste.
Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
That would be "Best Foods."

Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
Sorry, I meant to say Miracle Whip is too sweet for my tastes, even as a salad dressing. Best Foods and Hellmans taste the best to me. Sorry Lehrer, I know it is off the subject, I'm just following the lead here.
Re: Salad Dressing vs Mayonnaise?
There's only one thing IMHO that really needs Miracle Whip, and it's not for foodies, In fact it's somewhat of an embarrassment to me. I love Colonel Sanders old style macaroni salad. For that you just have to have Miracle Whip. Other than that, Hellmans is my one and only. In what will probably be a futile attempt to get rid of preservatives and other nasties in my diet, I will be trying to make my own. We'll see. Thanks to Ferret for her recipe.
@Dawg, that visual on oysters was just too much for me. Mind you, Alzheimers can produce similar results. Sex with a new partner every day and you forget whether or not they were faking it.
