Torrential rain early this morning
5:19 am
Well, I've been up since 3 am. Torrential rain and the sump pump (which I had put in my "rain barrel" aka 121 litre garbage can) would not shut off. I have been just rolling over and going back to sleep when I hear it. Then I heard the water overflowing the barrel in addition to the noise from the sump pump, so, I got up to investigate. OMG! The entire center courtyard was filling up with water. I would not have been able to pull the sump pump out of barrel without getting soaking wet and watched in horror as the water level crept to within a half inch of the bottom of the kitchen door. Finally, around 4 am, the rain eased up and the sump pump could keep up. I waded out, grabbed the pump and dropped it into the real inground receptacle that I just had made for it and watched while it made short work of my new wading pool. Interesting that it made hardly any noise at all by comparison to the racket in the above ground barrel. I love the idea of collecting the rain water but...
It's now 5:20 a.m. Cora wants breakfast and I need a coffee... badly. I think it's going to be a multiple nap day.
5:43 a.m. Okay, got some coffee in me and realizing that I had better have a back up sump pump because, if this one ever fails (and they do) then I'm fucked.
When the three houses were built beside me, they cut off my drain from the centre atrium into what was a field. I had assumed, incorrectly, that the pipe drained to the front of my house and out to the street but the builder also neglected to tell me what they had done. I think (you can translate that as "hope") that I have now solved the problem by digging a sump and putting the pump where it should have been in the first place. The sump pump delivers the water to the front section of my roof, into the gutter, down the spout and out to the street.
Let it pour!!!
Hope everyone has a damn, fine, splendid day! LOL.

Re: Torrential rain early this morning
Same in Riberas and in Jocotepec. Sump pump now has a 1 1/2 inch drain tube as opposed to the 1/2 inch in the opening post.
