Not always, though, right? I remember a few years back when a hurricane was moving up the coast and was predicted to hit the Puerto Vallarta area. It ended up hitting south of Puerto Vallarta around Mayto and the system moved inland and Guadalajara got quite deluged with rain. So that came from the southwest.

We can get rain occasionally from the west, the south and the southwest especially early in the season. But "the" rainy season starts when the prevailing winds shift to mostly coming from the east.
