New Hair Salon in town Empty New Hair Salon in town

Post by larryc Wed Oct 19, 2011 9:16 am

As I'm somewhat new to town and needed my first haircut and after 2-3 failed attempts to book an appointment over the phone my fault I know, I emailed Jim at Gloriosa a newer business I saw an ad for.
He emailed me back promptly and we set time.

Turns out he moved here from Hawaii last December and now calls Ajijic his permant home. We lived in Hawaii for 15 years so we had a lot to talk about.
Super nice guy very clean modern shop and my haircut was excellant. It's not that easy to make me look good these days.

Anyway I'm always glad to help out a newbie as we were all once somewhere.

Jims phone is 376-766-3372 or email jc@gloriosa-salon.com

I agree. First good haircut I've gotten here since I arrived. I'll be returning.

I paid $150 pesos, it included a short massage, wash with some really nice smelling herbal shampoo and hair conditioner rinse. A detailed cut, that is looking even better today right out of the shower. Neck, nose, eyebrows or whatever hair you got thats needs trimming.
I'm sure there's cheaper around but i will go back for sure.

Guess he charges more for women. I paid 300 pesos for shampoo, cut & blow dry but mine is a difficult cut. I still consider it worth it. He also said that after I got home & in a day or so, washed & dried it & there was anything wrong to come back & he'd fix it.

Yep and he told me it would last at least 6 weeks, and judging from the cut i'd say he's right.

I plan on trying him next time...which will be about six weeks judging from the amount that was just cut off.

I had been pleased with where I was going...she did exactly what I asked. This time I got turned towards a video of Andre Rieu and trusted her to do what she'd been doing. Big mistake...the style is completely different...and I'm more than a little ticked about it.

Do the ladies get a neck massage too?

I'm assuming so?

He's going to do ok here. He's good and understands how to listen and clearly got it right with me.

I, too, liked my cut - and the salon in general.

Today, I had my first haircut with Jim at Gloriosa. It's probably the first time in the last fifteen years that I've been truly happy with my hair and I will be a regular forever.

We communicated via e-mail to set up the appointment and had a great 'ole chinwag today. We're both Sagittarians and both of our mothers were Sagittarians...what are the chances? I enjoyed the hair cut, the chat, the atmosphere...I'm sure you will too.

Wow... I always new the north shore had gringo pricing but I didn't realize it was that much of a difference. For 150p in SLS I can get my hair cut, have her husband at his car wash, wash my pickup, and still have enough left over for a couple of beer while I'm waiting. I know somebody is going to ask what my hair looks like after the hair cut and its every bit as good as i used to get back home in Canada.

There's haircuts and there's haircuts. For the past six years I paid 100 pesos a month for just a cut in Sayulita. No wash, no conditioner, no blow dry... and not a great cut either (just shorter but no style). If you're a man, it's no big deal...if you're a woman, it matters. I'm treating myself and using all the money I didn't pay over the last 15 years.

The price is higher and the quality is there...no question.

For me the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is about 2 weeks. A cut with none of the frills costs 30p before the tip in San Luis Soyatlan. And really it's just as good as what I got back in Canada. Just thinking about it the 100p or so i save each month just about pays my property taxes each year. Boy do I love Mexico.
