Did You Feel It???
Quake in Colima 7.5, about 5 minutes ago.
Strong here in Ajijic---pool is still sloshing over its sides; lots of my art objects swayed and shuddered. Sofa I was on went all roller-coaster.

Re: Did You Feel It???
Longest one I've experienced here at Lakeside. The others seemed to be more of a roll... and this was a shake, rattle and roll.
Also experienced two on the coast of Mexico.

Re: Did You Feel It???
USGS now calling it a 7.6
FYI they ask for reports (can be anonymous) to gauge its extent.

Re: Did You Feel It???
Just felt it here in Sayulita. Sitting at my terrace table, the table shook and so did everything else. First time I've felt one here.
Epicenter reported as Coalcoman, Michoacan.

Upgraded to 7.6
Here is WaPo story,
MEXICO CITY — A magnitude 7.6 earthquake shook Mexico’s central Pacific coast on Monday, setting off an earthquake alarm in the capital.
There were no immediate reports of damage from the quake that hit at 1:05 p.m. local time, according to the U.S. Geologic Survey, which had initially put the magnitude at 7.5.
It said the quake was centered 37 kilometers (23 miles) southeast of Aquila near the boundary of Colima and Michoacan states and at a depth of 15.1 kilometers (9.4 miles).
Alarms for the new quake came less than an hour after a quake alarms warbled in a nationwide earthquake simulation marking major quakes that struck on the same date in 1985 and 2017.

What weird timing that it happened right after the national earthquake drill. Like the universe saying, "See, told you to be prepared".

Re: Did You Feel It???
I was in Guatemala during the biggest earthquake they've had, in 1976, which resulted in 23,000 fatalities and 76,000 injured.
My ex and I and my 3 year old daughter were sleeping in my van, parked next to a little park in Guatemala City. Shortly after we had gotten into bed the van started rocking violently from side to side. Our intial reaction was that people were outside pushing it and we yelled,"F**k off!" Within a second or two, though, we realized it was an earthquake. We were so lucky we weren't near any buildings, because they were crumbling down within sight of us.
It happened in the middle of the night, which is why so many people died. Their roofs collapsed on them while they were sleeping. No amount of earthquake drills can really help in that situation.

Re: Did You Feel It???
In SAT we were walking downhill on the Libremiento to Laguna Mall and did not notice a thing. When we got to the mall there were huge crowds of people standing outside. Someone told us there had been an earthquake, but I said "What earthquake?" We are older people and wobble downhill anyway which is why we did not notice.

Re: Did You Feel It???
Everyone might want to keep an eye on their propane consumption after the earthquake. The last time there was an earthquake here, we lived in La Huerta. The gas line, in the concrete floor, ruptured and our gas consumption tripled. The owner of the house rerouted the pipe over the roof and the gas consumption went WAY down. I am grateful that this little house that I bought, had already had the gas line rerouted over the roof. I use a max of 100 litres of gas a year.

Re: Did You Feel It???
I just filled my propane to 85% the day before the quake and with solar water heat I don’t use a lot. Good tip to watch the consumption. I think I want to have JP Home Services (Handy Mail) install one of those readers since I’m hardly able to climb on the roof.

I think that's a good idea. I am grateful that my tank is at ground level.

Gotta love the Spanish word for earthquake: Terremoto.

Terremoto has always been one of my favorite Spanish words. Along with the place name Topolobampo.

I see they updated their map of how far away it was felt. Yesterday it was inaccurate.

I stopped in at Handy Mail to see about installation of the propane contents reader and the lady didn’t know about it but she will check with the boss. Letting you know if interested in the same installation. Will post back when I find out.
